By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 7 min readShrouded Fable is a special expansion in Pokémon’s Scarlet & Violet series, released August 2, 2024. It brought Pecharunt to cards for the first time, as a Pokémon ex, alongside Pokémon ex of Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti. The set has 99 cards: 64 inside the printed total and 35 numbered above it. It came in eight products, from a 2-pack Mini Tin to an 11-pack Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, none of them a booster box. Its parallel foil cards carry a mark of their own, which makes them easy to tell apart.
When did Shrouded Fable come out?
On August 2, 2024. Pokémon announced it on May 16, 2024 as a new special expansion, and on August 2 it was out at participating retailers worldwide, Pokémon Center included. Two products followed: the Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box on August 23, sold only at Pokémon Center in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, and the Booster Bundle on September 6, 2024.
Its code is SFA on Rip.fan’s price pages. It follows Twilight Masquerade of May 24, 2024, and comes before Stellar Crown of September 13, 2024.
What is in Shrouded Fable?
Pecharunt, first found in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero add-on for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, appears on a card for the first time here, as a Darkness-type Pokémon ex. The Loyal Three appear again, now as Pokémon ex: Okidogi ex, Munkidori ex and Fezandipiti ex, alongside Pecharunt ex. Our Twilight Masquerade guide covers the set where those three first appeared.
Pokémon also highlights two groups of illustration rares. James Turner tells one story across Duskull, Dusclops and Dusknoir, and a night-time group shows Zorua by REND, Houndoom by Taiga Kasai and Persian by Whisker. They are at 068 to 070, 075, 066 and 078, and Dusclops evolves from Duskull and Dusknoir from Dusclops.
How do you spot a parallel foil card?
By the box around the expansion code at the bottom left. That box is normally black with white text, but on Shrouded Fable’s parallel foil cards it is white with black text. These cards also have a new foil pattern around the artwork. Commons, uncommons and rares can come in a parallel holo style. Our guide to Pokémon card finishes covers reverse holofoil cards in other sets.
How many cards are in Shrouded Fable?
- Cards 001 to 053 are Pokémon and 054 to 064 are Trainer cards, and the main list has no Energy cards. The rarities break down like this:
| Rarity | Mark | Cards | Numbers |

| Uncommon | Black diamond | 20 | Within 002 to 064 |
| Rare | Black star | 7 | Within 006 to 046 |
| Double rare | Two black stars | 6 | Within 012 to 039 |

| Special illustration rare | Two gold stars | 5 | 090 to 094 |
| Hyper rare | Three gold stars | 5 | 095 to 099 |
The 6 double rares are 5 Pokémon ex and 1 Tera Pokémon ex; the 3 ACE SPEC rares are Trainer cards numbered 058, 060 and 062; the 15 illustration rares are Pokémon; the 10 ultra rares are Pokémon ex, the Tera one included, and Supporters; the 5 special illustration rares are Pokémon and Supporter cards; and the 5 hyper rares are gold-etched cards.
Every count Pokémon announced matches the list.
- ACE SPEC rares. Two Items and a Stadium, all inside the printed total among the other Trainer cards. Our Temporal Forces guide explains where ACE SPEC cards came from.
- Illustration rares. Munkidori, Fezandipiti and Okidogi (072 to 074) have illustration rares, but their only cards in 001 to 064 are their Pokémon ex.
- Hyper rares. Pecharunt ex, two Trainer cards and two gold Basic Energy cards, Darkness and Metal. One of the Trainers, Earthen Vessel, has no card of that name in this set’s main list; it is an uncommon at 163 in Paradox Rift.
Each mark is explained in our guide to Pokémon rarity symbols.

Which Japanese set shares its cards?
Night Wanderer (ナイトワンダラー, SV6a) went on sale in Japan on June 7, 2024, in 5-card packs. The English title is Rip.fan’s rendering. Compared with Shrouded Fable:
- It holds all 6 of Shrouded Fable’s Pokémon ex.
- Its Pokémon at 001 to 053 match Shrouded Fable’s at the same numbers, the same Pokémon, ex or not. Both sets put 11 Trainer cards at 054 to 064, ordered by type in the Japanese set and alphabetically in the English one.
- Night Wanderer has 94 cards against 99 for Shrouded Fable. The English set has five cards more: the Munkidori, Fezandipiti and Okidogi illustration rares and the two gold Basic Energy cards.
Our Paradox Rift guide shows how the Pokémon ex in four Scarlet & Violet sets line up with Japanese sets.

How do you check Shrouded Fable card prices?
Shrouded Fable has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, listing its 99 cards with number, rarity and NM market price. Filter it to ACE SPEC Rare to see the three together, or sort it by number and Pecharunt ex’s four cards sit at 039, 085, 093 and 095. For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.
If you plan to grade, our guide to whether a card is worth grading covers the costs, and the centering checker turns border measurements into a centering split.
What should you check before buying?
- The version. Pecharunt ex is four different cards here. Match the card number to the rarity a listing claims.
- Parallel foil or not. Look at the code box at the bottom left: white with black text marks a parallel foil.
- Set card or promo. The woodblock-style Kingdra ex, Greninja ex and Kingambit cards are collection promos outside the 99-card list, and our guide to Pokémon promo cards explains how promos are marked.
- The language. Night Wanderer’s Pokémon share Shrouded Fable’s numbers, so check the language before you match a listing. Our Japanese and English cards guide explains the differences.
- Sealed contents and genuine cards. Match a sealed item to one of the eight products in the table, and see our guides to spotting resealed Pokémon packs and spotting fake Pokémon cards.
The Pokémon hub has the rest of our coverage, and our guides to Paldean Fates, Scarlet & Violet and Paldea Evolved cover more sets from the series the same way.
