Pokémon booster boxes: what a booster display holds
How many packs and cards a Pokémon booster display holds, which Mega Evolution series sets have one, how it differs from an Elite Trainer Box, and where to buy.
By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 7 min readA Pokémon booster box, which Pokémon calls a Booster Display, holds 36 booster packs from one expansion. In the five main Mega Evolution series expansions, every pack carries 10 cards plus a Basic Energy card, so one box holds 360 cards from its packs. Beyond the packs there is nothing else inside: no promo, no sleeves, no storage box. Two variations have come up: an Enhanced box for the Mega Evolution set, which added a single promo card, and an 18-pack box that PokéGuardian lists for Delta Reign. Not every expansion gets a box at all, and neither special set, Ascended Heroes or 30th Celebration, features one.
What is in a Pokémon booster box?
Thirty-six packs of one set, and only that. Mega Evolution, Phantasmal Flames, Perfect Order, Chaos Rising and Pitch Black each have a Booster Display of 36 booster packs. For the last four, each pack holds 10 cards, a Basic Energy card and a Pokémon TCG Live code card, with the cards varying from pack to pack. GoNintendo’s report of Pokémon’s showcase gives 10 cards and a Basic Energy card for the Mega Evolution set.
So a full box holds:
- 36 sealed booster packs
- 360 cards from those packs
- 36 Basic Energy cards, one per pack
Every pack contains at least one card marked common, uncommon or rare. Our guide to Pokémon rarity symbols explains those marks, and how many cards of each tier a set has.
What is an Enhanced booster box?
A version with one extra card. GoNintendo’s report of Pokémon’s product showcase for the Mega Evolution set, published September 15, 2025, describes an Enhanced Booster Display Box with the same 36 packs plus an extra promo card: a stamped Bulbasaur in illustration rare style. The four main sets that followed list only the standard Booster Display, so treat “Enhanced” in a listing as a claim to check against Pokémon’s page for that set.
Is a booster box the same as a booster display?
Yes, under different names. Pokémon says Booster Display, and its showcase, as GoNintendo reports it, says Booster Display Box. Some retailers and price sites say booster box instead: TCGplayer’s June 24, 2026 product list for Pitch Black calls it the Pitch Black Booster Box, with 36 packs. The glossary entry for booster box covers the term.
Whatever the name, the pack count is the check. Every English box Pokémon has featured so far holds 36 packs, and the only other English size is the 18-pack Delta Reign box in PokéGuardian’s list. A listing that claims any other count is a different product, or not a full box.
Which recent sets have a booster box?
Not all of them.
| Set | Released | Booster Display | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Evolution | September 26, 2025 | Yes, 36 packs | An Enhanced box with a Bulbasaur promo was also shown |
| Phantasmal Flames | November 14, 2025 | Yes, 36 packs | |
| Ascended Heroes | January 30, 2026 | Not featured | A special expansion; its largest featured product is the 11-pack Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box |
| Perfect Order | March 27, 2026 | Yes, 36 packs | |
| Chaos Rising | May 22, 2026 | Yes, 36 packs | |
| Pitch Black | July 17, 2026 | Yes, 36 packs | |
| 30th Celebration | September 16, 2026 | Not featured | Its packs come only inside other products |
| Delta Reign | November 6, 2026, announced | Reported, 36 or 18 packs | PokéGuardian’s report lists a 36-pack and an 18-pack Booster Display Box |
Ascended Heroes features two Elite Trainer Boxes, a Tech Sticker Collection with 3 packs, a Premium Poster Collection with 10 packs and a two-pack collection. For 30th Celebration, Pokémon said in September 2026 that the packs are available only in products like the ones it listed, and it named no booster display in September or October. Our guide to the 30th Celebration set lists every product that carries its packs.
“Not featured” means Pokémon shows no booster display for the set. If a seller offers a booster box for either set, ask exactly what is inside before you pay.
Delta Reign may bring a new size. PokéGuardian’s report of Pokémon’s announcement, published August 20, 2026, lists two Booster Display Boxes for the set, one of 36 packs and one of 18.
How does a booster box compare with other sealed products?
Among a main set’s featured products, the box holds the most packs and the fewest extras, as Pitch Black’s line-up shows. The last column is the button Pokémon puts under each product.
| Product | Packs | Cards from packs | What else is inside | Pokémon’s button |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booster Display | 36 | 360 | Nothing | Find a Retailer |
| Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box | 11 | 110 | Two Zarude promos, one with the Pokémon Center logo; 65 sleeves; 40 Energy cards; a set guide; a storage box with 6 dividers | Shop at Pokémon Center |
| Elite Trainer Box | 9 | 90 | One Zarude promo; 65 sleeves; 40 Energy cards; a set guide; a storage box | Find a Retailer |
| Booster Bundle | 6 | 60 | Nothing | Find a Retailer |
| 40-card deck box | 4 | 40 | A 40-card deck with 1 of 4 foil promos | Find a Retailer |
A simple way to choose:
- You want as many packs of one set as possible, sealed together. That is the booster display.
- You want packs plus a promo and the supplies to keep cards safe. That is an Elite Trainer Box. Its sleeves and divided box are a start on storage, and our guide to storing trading cards covers the rest.
- You want one particular card. Packs give a random mix, so buy that card as a single. Rip.fan’s Pokémon card price pages list the priced cards in each set with their numbers and rarities.
Our guide to Pokémon sealed products has the pack counts for more formats, along with the prices one store listed.
Where are Pokémon booster boxes sold?
Pokémon’s pages send buyers of a box to retailers. On each main set’s expansion page, the Booster Display’s button is “Find a Retailer,” the same as the standard Elite Trainer Box and the Booster Bundle. Only the Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box gets a “Shop at Pokémon Center” button. Our guide to buying Pokémon cards at MSRP lists the retailers Pokémon names and explains how to spot an outside seller’s listing on a big store’s site.
What does a booster box cost?
- TCGplayer, in its June 24, 2026 list for Pitch Black, gave a suggested price for the Elite Trainer Box, the Booster Bundle and the 40-card deck box, and left the booster box’s blank.
- PokéGuardian, in its August 20, 2026 report on Delta Reign, lists an MSRP of $161.64 for the 36-pack box.
Each seller sets its own price. Compare the seller’s own price at more than one retailer, and count what the price buys: 36 packs, and no extras.
Do launch-day limits apply?
Our guide to card restocks at retail covers how Pokémon Center and big stores handle purchase limits and queues when a new set arrives.
How are Japanese booster boxes different?
The Japanese Storm Emeralda box, released July 31, 2026, has smaller packs and fewer of them: 30 packs of 5 cards, or 150 cards, at ¥6,000 including tax. An English box from the five main expansions holds 36 packs of 10 cards plus a Basic Energy each. Our guide to Japanese and English Pokémon cards compares the two in more detail.
What should you check before buying a booster box?
- That the set has one. Look for the Booster Display on Pokémon’s expansion page for that set.
- The pack count. 36 for an English box from the five main Mega Evolution series expansions, 30 for the Japanese Storm Emeralda box. PokéGuardian’s list of Delta Reign products also includes an 18-pack box.
- Standard or Enhanced. The Enhanced box in GoNintendo’s report of Pokémon’s showcase is for the Mega Evolution set, and the later sets list only the standard box.
- The seller. Read the “sold and shipped by” line on a big store’s page.
- The seal. A box is sealed product, bought for what is inside, so the wrap has to be the maker’s. Our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs and boxes covers the wrap and seams.
- Where it will live. If you keep a box sealed, our guide to storing sealed product covers heat, light and humidity.
