By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 6 min readPhantasmal Flames is an expansion in Pokémon’s Mega Evolution series, released November 14, 2025. It centers on Fire-type and Darkness-type Pokémon, led by Mega Charizard X ex and Mega Gengar ex. The set has 130 cards: 94 inside the printed total and 36 numbered above it, ending with the set’s single Mega hyper rare, a gold Mega Charizard X ex. Unlike 151 and Prismatic Evolutions, which had no booster display, it came in a 36-pack booster display as well as boxes and bundles.
When did Phantasmal Flames come out?
On November 14, 2025. Pokémon announced it on September 3, 2025, naming the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and on November 14 it was out at stores worldwide. Its code is PFL on Rip.fan’s price page. It followed the Mega Evolution set, released September 26, 2025, and came before Ascended Heroes in January 2026.
In Japan, the core of the set came first. Inferno X (インフェルノX, M2) went on sale September 26, 2025, in 5-card packs with a suggested price of ¥180, before Phantasmal Flames. Of the 10 Pokémon ex in Phantasmal Flames, 8 appear in Inferno X. The two that do not are Mega Diancie ex and Mega Gengar ex. Inferno X has 116 cards against 130 for Phantasmal Flames, and a printed total of 80 against 94.

How do the announced descriptions compare with the list?
The 17 ultra rares hold 8 Pokémon ex: 4 Megas (Mega Heracross ex, Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Sharpedo ex and Mega Lopunny ex) and 4 others (Oricorio ex, Rotom ex, Mismagius ex and Empoleon ex). The rest are 8 Trainer cards and one Energy card, Ignition Energy.
The 5 special illustration rares are three Megas, one Supporter (Dawn) and Rotom ex, which is not a Mega. The Mega hyper rare is a full-art Mega Evolution Pokémon ex with gold-etched holographic art.
The series’ ultra rare style is Mega Evolution Pokémon ex art that may show a silhouette of the Pokémon’s regular form in the background.
Which Pokémon ex come in which versions?
Every one of the 10 has a double rare between 004 and 084. Which higher versions it gets varies:
| Pokémon ex | Double rare | Ultra rare | Special illustration rare | Mega hyper rare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Heracross ex | 004 | 108 | None | None |
| Mega Charizard X ex | 013 | 109 | 125 | 130 |
| Oricorio ex | 018 | 110 | None | None |
| Rotom ex | 029 | 111 | 126 | None |
| Mismagius ex | 036 | 112 | None | None |
| Mega Diancie ex | 041 | None | None | None |
| Mega Gengar ex | 056 | None | None | None |
| Mega Sharpedo ex | 061 | 113 | 127 | None |
| Empoleon ex | 070 | 114 | None | None |
| Mega Lopunny ex | 084 | 115 | 128 | None |
- Mega Charizard X ex is the only card in all four versions. A listing for it needs the number to say which one.
- Mega Gengar ex comes only as a double rare, even though Pokémon named it beside Mega Charizard X ex in both its announcement and its launch notice. Mega Diancie ex is the same. They are also the two Pokémon ex missing from Inferno X. Our Mega Evolution guide notes that both appear again in Ascended Heroes.
- Rotom ex is the one non-Mega with a special illustration rare.
The 13 illustration rares, 095 to 107, are all Pokémon, running from Ludicolo to Ambipom. Eleven of them also have a regular card in the main list; Paldean Wooper and Meowth appear only as illustration rares. Our guide to illustration rares sets the set’s counts beside others.

How do you check Phantasmal Flames card prices?
Phantasmal Flames has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, listing the set’s priced cards with number, rarity and NM market price. Sort it by number and the four Mega Charizard X ex cards sit at 013, 109, 125 and 130; filter it and you see one rarity at a time. For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.
If you plan to grade, our guide to whether a card is worth grading covers the costs; the centering checker finds a centering split from border measurements.
What should you check before buying?
- The version. Mega Charizard X ex is four different cards in this set: 013, 109, 125 and 130. Match the number to the rarity a listing claims.
- The language. Inferno X has a printed total of 80 against 94, and some of its cards sit at different numbers from their English matches: Mega Sharpedo ex is 051 in Japanese and 061 in English. Our Japanese and English cards guide explains the differences.
- Box contents. Phantasmal Flames boxes list 40 Energy cards and 6 dividers. Check a sealed item against the table, and see our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs.
- Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.
The Pokémon hub has the rest of our coverage, and our guides to Prismatic Evolutions, 151 and Destined Rivals cover three more sets the same way.
