How to open a sample pack

Each pack has a theme. Vintage packs hold cards from Base Set to Skyridge, 1999 to 2003. Modern packs hold cards from Sword & Shield to today, 2020 on. All eras packs hold cards from every era. Packs come in Standard, Select and Reserve, from the lowest value ranges to the highest.

Choosing a pack shows its details: how many rips in every 100 land in each of its value ranges, its six top cards, and every card it holds. A sample pack made by Rip.fan. Its card rates and value ranges are illustrative, modeled on a value range table a rip site publishes, and they say nothing about any site's packs.

Open pack takes the pack to full screen. Slide the tab across the top to rip it, or tap the tab. The card rises in a clear slab, with its grade under it and its value under that: the market price of a PSA copy of the card at the slab's grade where our price check has one, or the ungraded card's market price where it does not, on the day our price check last read it. Rip another seals a new pack of the same kind, and Exit full screen takes you back to the pack's details. Grades on sample slabs are for show. They are not a grading company's grade.

Add to my sample binder keeps the slab on this page, saved in this browser only and kept apart from the collection tracker, so sample slabs never count toward your collection. Share this rip makes a link that opens the same pack to the same card.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real packs, and why do they show prices?

They are Rip.fan's own sample packs, built from real Pokémon cards in our weekly price check. They are not real packs, and nothing is bought or sent. Each tier shows a price: one for Standard, one for Select and one for Reserve, the same in every theme. Opening one here is free, with no sign-up, and nothing is sold.

What are Vintage, Modern and All eras?

The three themes, by where a pack's cards come from. Vintage packs hold cards from the Base, Gym, Neo and E-Card series, from Base Set to Skyridge, 1999 to 2003. Modern packs hold cards from the Sword & Shield, Scarlet & Violet and Mega Evolution series, 2020 on. All eras packs hold cards from every era. A Standard pack has the same value ranges and card rates in every theme, and so do Select and Reserve.

How are the card rates set?

Each pack has four value ranges. 80 in every 100 rips land in the lowest, 15 in the next, 4 in the next and 1 in the highest, modeled on a value range table a rip site publishes. Every card in a range comes up as often as any other, so each card's rate is its range's share divided by the number of cards in it.

What do the grade and the value under the slab mean?

The grade is for show. Every sample slab carries a grade from 8 to 10, set when the pack's card list was made, and it is not a grading company's grade. The value is the card's market price on the day our price check last read it: the market price of a PSA copy at the slab's grade where the price check has one, and the ungraded card's market price where it does not. The fine print under it names which price and that day. The card's own page shows its price history.
