Twilight Masquerade: the Pokémon set explained
Pokémon's Twilight Masquerade set: its 226 cards, Ogerpon ex in four masks, which Pokémon ex get which versions, every rarity counted, and the products listed.
By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 8 min readTwilight Masquerade is an expansion in Pokémon’s Scarlet & Violet series, released May 24, 2024. It brought the Legendary Pokémon Ogerpon to the Pokémon TCG as four Tera Pokémon ex, one for each of its masks, alongside other Pokémon from the land of Kitakami. The set has 226 cards: 167 inside the printed total and 59 numbered above it. Every one of its 14 Pokémon ex has an ultra rare, and two, Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex, come in all four versions. All 14 also appear in one of two Japanese sets released before it.
When did Twilight Masquerade come out?
On May 24, 2024. Pokémon announced it on March 14, 2024, and on May 24 it went on sale at Pokémon Center and other retailers worldwide.
Its code is TWM on Rip.fan’s price page. It followed Temporal Forces, released March 22, 2024, and came before Shrouded Fable, released August 2, 2024.
Pokémon first found in The Teal Mask, the first part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero add-on for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, appear in the Pokémon TCG for the first time in this set. Among them are Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti, and all three are rares in this list, at 111, 095 and 096. Pokémon calls them the Heroes of Kitakami.
How many Ogerpon cards are in the set?
Fourteen. Ogerpon appears as four different Tera Pokémon ex, each based on one of its four masks: Teal Mask, Hearthflame Mask, Wellspring Mask and Cornerstone Mask. Each mask has its own type: Grass for the Teal Mask card, Fire for Hearthflame Mask and Water for Wellspring Mask. Pokémon revealed six Ogerpon cards before release: the four Pokémon ex, a plain Teal Mask Ogerpon (a rare at 024) and Ogre’s Mask, a new Item card (an uncommon at 159).
Each Ogerpon ex has a double rare, an ultra rare and a special illustration rare, and Teal Mask Ogerpon ex adds a hyper rare at 221. That makes 13 Ogerpon ex cards plus the plain Teal Mask Ogerpon. The same illustrator, Yano Keiji, drew all four Ogerpon special illustration rares, numbered 211, 212, 213 and 215. The versions table further down gives every number.
How many cards are in Twilight Masquerade?
- Cards 001 to 141 are Pokémon, 142 to 165 are Trainer cards, and 166 and 167 are Energy cards.
| Rarity | Mark | Cards | Numbers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | Black circle | 76 | Within 001 to 144 |
| Uncommon | Black diamond | 55 | Within 005 to 166 |
| Rare | Black star | 16 | Within 019 to 123 |
| Double rare | Two black stars | 14 | Within 023 to 141 |
| Illustration rare | One gold star | 21 | 168 to 188 |
| Ultra rare | Two silver stars, which Pokémon calls foil stars | 21 | 189 to 209 |
| Special illustration rare | Two gold stars | 11 | 210 to 220 |
| Hyper rare | Three gold stars | 6 | 221 to 226 |
The 14 double rares are 7 Pokémon ex and 7 Tera Pokémon ex; the 6 ACE SPEC rares are Trainer and Special Energy cards numbered within 152 to 167; and the 6 hyper rares are gold etched cards.
Every count Pokémon announced matches the list. Pokémon places Tera Pokémon ex in the double rare tier, and the announced 7 plus 7 make up the 14 double rares. Pokémon names five of the seven Tera Pokémon ex: the four Ogerpon ex and Greninja ex.
- ACE SPEC rares. Four Items, one Pokémon Tool and one Special Energy, Legacy Energy at 167. All six sit inside the printed total, the five Trainer ACE SPECs among the other Trainer cards and Legacy Energy among the Energy cards.
- Ultra rares. All 14 Pokémon ex and 7 Supporters: Caretaker, Carmine, Hassel, Kieran, Lana’s Aid, Lucian and Perrin.
- Special illustration rares. 7 Pokémon ex and 4 of those Supporters: Carmine, Kieran, Lana’s Aid and Perrin.
- Hyper rares. Two Pokémon ex, two Items, a Pokémon Tool and Luminous Energy. Three of the four non-Pokémon hyper rares (Buddy-Buddy Poffin, Rescue Board and Luminous Energy) have no card of the same name in the main list.
Rip.fan’s page for Twilight Masquerade uses the same nine rarities. Each mark is explained in our guide to Pokémon rarity symbols.

Which Pokémon ex come in which versions?
Every Pokémon ex has a double rare inside the main list and an ultra rare above it. The higher versions vary:
| Pokémon ex | Double rare | Ultra rare | Special illustration rare | Hyper rare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sinistcha ex | 023 | 189 | 210 | None |
| Teal Mask Ogerpon ex | 025 | 190 | 211 | 221 |
| Magcargo ex | 029 | 191 | None | None |
| Hearthflame Mask Ogerpon ex | 040 | 192 | 212 | None |
| Palafin ex | 061 | 193 | None | None |
| Wellspring Mask Ogerpon ex | 064 | 194 | 213 | None |
| Luxray ex | 068 | 195 | None | None |
| Iron Thorns ex | 077 | 196 | None | None |
| Scream Tail ex | 094 | 197 | None | None |
| Greninja ex | 106 | 198 | 214 | None |
| Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex | 112 | 199 | 215 | None |
| Dragapult ex | 130 | 200 | None | None |
| Blissey ex | 134 | 201 | None | None |
| Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex | 141 | 202 | 216 | 222 |
Two patterns stand out:
- Nothing stops at double rare. All 14 Pokémon ex reach the ultra rare tier, so the 21 ultra rares are those 14 plus 7 Supporters.
- Two come in all four versions. Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex are the set’s only Pokémon hyper rares, so a listing for either needs the number to say which card it is.
Which Japanese sets share its Pokémon ex?
Two Japanese sets, both sold in 5-card packs, hold all 14:
| Japanese set | Code | Released in Japan | Days before Twilight Masquerade | Pokémon ex shared |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crimson Haze (クリムゾンヘイズ) | SV5a | March 22, 2024 | 63 | 6 |
| Transformation Mask (変幻の仮面) | SV6 | April 26, 2024 | 28 | 8 |
Transformation Mask holds the four Ogerpon ex, Palafin ex, Luxray ex, Dragapult ex and Blissey ex. Crimson Haze holds Sinistcha ex, Magcargo ex, Iron Thorns ex, Scream Tail ex, Greninja ex and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex. Crimson Haze was the first set in Japan to hold cards of the Pokémon and Trainers met in Kitakami. SV6 has 133 cards and SV5a 96, against 226 for Twilight Masquerade.
Which art cards go together?
Pokémon names one pair: the Hisuian Growlithe illustration rare and the Perrin special illustration rare show the same scene from different angles. GIDORA drew both, at 181 and 220. Pokémon also highlights the Froslass and Cramorant illustration rares (174 and 176). Beyond Pokémon’s own pair, Saboteri drew both the Poltchageist illustration rare (171) and the Sinistcha ex special illustration rare (210), and Sinistcha evolves from Poltchageist. A shared credit does not show that two cards were meant as a pair. Our guide to illustration rares sets the set’s counts beside others.
What products hold Twilight Masquerade packs?
Pokémon lists six products for the set: a Booster Display Box, a Booster Bundle, a Sleeved Booster, a box with a 40-card deck, an Elite Trainer Box and a Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box.
- The 40-card-deck box. This kind of box holds a smaller, 40-card deck.
- The Elite Trainer Box. An Elite Trainer Box holds a little of everything, from card sleeves and Energy cards to full-art promo cards, booster packs and a guide.
- The Pokémon Center edition. It comes with two extra booster packs and one extra illustration rare-style promo card that carries the Pokémon Center logo. It was offered for preorder at Pokémon Center in the US, Canada and the UK.
Beyond that, Pokémon says only that the set is sold in booster packs, in Elite Trainer Boxes and in special collections. Check a box’s printed contents or the seller’s listing for the pack count before you buy. Our guides to booster boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes cover what these products hold in other sets.
How do you check Twilight Masquerade card prices?
Twilight Masquerade has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, listing the set’s cards with number, rarity and NM market price. Sort it by number to follow the versions table above, or filter it to see one rarity at a time. For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.
If you plan to grade, our guide to whether a card is worth grading covers the costs, and the centering checker turns border measurements into a centering split.
What should you check before buying?
- The mask and the version. Four Ogerpon ex share most of their name, and each comes in three or four versions. Match both the mask and the card number to what a listing claims.
- The language. Japanese printings sit in two sets with their own numbers. The double rare Teal Mask Ogerpon ex is 016 in SV6 and 025 in Twilight Masquerade. Our Japanese and English cards guide explains the differences.
- Sealed contents. Compare a box with its printed contents, and see our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs.
- Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.
