Silver Tempest and its Trainer Gallery explained
Pokémon's Silver Tempest: its 215-card list and 30-card Trainer Gallery, Lugia's six cards, every VSTAR by number, and where it sits in the Sword & Shield run.
By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 6 min readSilver Tempest is an expansion in Pokémon’s Sword & Shield series, released November 11, 2022, and the last set with Sword & Shield in its name on Pokémon’s product schedule. Its notice announced three new Radiant Pokémon and more VSTAR cards, among them Lugia VSTAR; with its Pokémon V, Lugia has six cards in the main list. The set comes in two lists: a main list of 215 cards, 195 inside the printed total and 20 above it, and a Trainer Gallery of 30 cards numbered TG01 to TG30.
When did Silver Tempest come out?
The set reached participating retailers around the world on November 11, 2022.
Silver Tempest follows Lost Origin (September 9, 2022). The only card product between it and Scarlet & Violet (March 31, 2023) is Crown Zenith (January 20, 2023), which belongs to the Sword & Shield series too. Our Crown Zenith guide covers that set, and our guide to Pokémon card eras places the series in the longer history.
Rip.fan’s price pages give both lists the code SIT.
How many cards are in Silver Tempest?
215 in the main set, plus the 30-card Trainer Gallery. The first 169 numbers are the main run, before the ultra rare block: cards 001 to 150 are Pokémon, 151 to 167 are Trainer cards and 168 and 169 are Special Energy cards. By tier, sorting the V, VMAX and VSTAR cards by name:
| Tier | Cards | Numbers | What they are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 53 | Within 001 to 150 | Pokémon |
| Uncommon | 56 | Within 002 to 169 | 39 Pokémon, 15 Trainer cards and both Special Energy cards |
| Rare | 21 | Within 010 to 149 | Pokémon |
| Holo rare | 14 | Within 004 to 156 | 12 Pokémon and 2 Tool cards |
| Radiant rare | 3 | 016, 059, 120 | Radiant Tsareena, Radiant Alakazam, Radiant Jirachi |
| Pokémon V | 15 | Within 007 to 140 | One card each for 15 Pokémon |
| Pokémon VMAX | 1 | 058 | Regieleki |
| Pokémon VSTAR | 6 | Within 008 to 139 | One card each for 6 Pokémon |
| Ultra rare | 26 | 170 to 195 | 18 full-art Pokémon V and 8 Supporters |
| Secret rare | 20 | 196 to 215 | 8 VSTAR, 1 VMAX, 7 Supporters, 3 other Trainer cards and a Special Energy |
The marks are a black circle for common, a black diamond for uncommon and a black star for rare. A reverse holofoil version exists for 142 of the 169 main-run cards; the 27 without one are the V, VMAX, VSTAR and Radiant cards and the two holo rare Tool cards. A card numbered above the printed total is a secret rare.
What are Radiant Pokémon?
Radiant Pokémon are Shiny Pokémon in etched artwork. The set has 3, at 016, 059 and 120. Among the new VSTAR cards are Lugia, Regidrago and Alolan Vulpix.
Which Pokémon have VSTAR or VMAX cards?
Seven. Here are each one’s cards in the main set:
| Pokémon | Pokémon V | VSTAR or VMAX | Full-art V | Rainbow | Gold |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serperior | 007 | VSTAR 008 | 170 | 196 | 210 |
| Alolan Vulpix | 033 | VSTAR 034 | 173 | 197 | None |
| Regieleki | 057 | VMAX 058 | 175 | 198 | None |
| Unown | 065 | VSTAR 066 | 176, 177 | 199 | None |
| Mawile | 070 | VSTAR 071 | 178 | 200 | None |
| Regidrago | 135 | VSTAR 136 | 183, 184 | 201 | None |
| Lugia | 138 | VSTAR 139 | 185, 186 | 202 | 211 |
Every one of the seven has a rainbow card, and only Serperior and Lugia have a gold VSTAR. Lugia’s six cards are more than any other Pokémon has in the main set.
Which Pokémon V have two full-art cards?
Unown (176, 177), Skuntank (180, 181), Regidrago (183, 184) and Lugia (185, 186). Each pair is credited to two different illustrators, so the two cards show different artwork, which is called alternate art. Neither of Lugia’s full-art cards shares an illustrator with its main-run Pokémon V, which is credited to Mitsuhiro Arita. Of the eight Pokémon V with no VSTAR or VMAX, only Ursaluna V has no full-art card.
What sits above 195?
Twenty cards, in two blocks:
- 196 to 209, rainbow. The six VSTAR cards and Regieleki VMAX, then rainbow versions of seven of the eight Supporters from the ultra rare block. Gym Trainer is the one without a rainbow card.
- 210 to 215, gold. Serperior VSTAR, Lugia VSTAR, three other Trainer cards and a Special Energy card.
Two of the gold Trainer cards, at 212 and 213, have no other card in the main list. Rainbow rare and gold rare cards are both kinds of secret rare.
What is in the Trainer Gallery?
The gallery has 30 cards with artwork of popular Trainers and Pokémon, in four blocks:
| Numbers | Cards | What they are |
|---|---|---|
| TG01 to TG11 | 11 | Pokémon that are not V cards, from Braixen to Altaria |
| TG12 to TG22 | 11 | 7 Pokémon V and 4 Pokémon VMAX |
| TG23 to TG28 | 6 | Supporter cards |
| TG29 and TG30 | 2 | Rayquaza VMAX and Duraludon VMAX, both recorded in gold |
Eight of the 30 share a name with a card in the main list: Braixen, Milotic, Jynx, Gardevoir, Smeargle and Altaria from the first block, plus Serperior V and Mawile V. The other 22 appear in Silver Tempest only in the gallery. Rayquaza VMAX and Duraludon VMAX each have two gallery cards (TG20 and TG29, TG21 and TG30) and nothing in the main list, and Blaziken and Corviknight appear as both V and VMAX. What products hold Silver Tempest packs?
The set came in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and special collections. For pack counts and contents, check the printed contents on the box or the seller’s listing. Our guides to Elite Trainer Boxes, booster boxes and Pokémon sealed products explain the formats.
How do you check Silver Tempest card prices?
The main list and the Trainer Gallery have separate pages in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, each with number, rarity and NM market price. Sort the main page by number and Lugia’s cards sit at 138, 139, 185, 186, 202 and 211. For one card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number, and the price changes page compares prices between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.
If you plan to grade, our guide to deciding whether to grade a card covers the costs.
What should you check before buying?
- The number. Lugia V is three cards (138, 185 and 186), and Lugia VSTAR three more (139, 202 and 211). Match the card number to the version a listing claims.
- Main list or gallery. Serperior V has three cards: 007 in the main run, 170 among the full arts and TG13 in the gallery. Rayquaza VMAX is only in the gallery.
- The finish. Most main-run cards have reverse holofoil versions, and Articuno (036) has a cosmos-pattern foil version. See our guide to Pokémon card finishes.
- Sealed product and genuine cards. See our guides to spotting resealed Pokémon packs and spotting fake Pokémon cards.
