Crown Zenith and its Galarian Gallery explained
Pokémon's Crown Zenith: its 160-card main list, the 70-card Galarian Gallery by card type, what Pokémon's counts cover, and the products with their pack counts.
By the Rip.fan Editorial Team.
Published 7 min readCrown Zenith is a special expansion in Pokémon’s Sword & Shield series, released January 20, 2023. It comes in two lists: a main list of 160 cards, numbered to 159 with a Pikachu at 160/159, and the Galarian Gallery, a 70-card subset of cards with special illustrations, numbered GG01 to GG70. The set puts the emphasis on alternate art cards and introduced a linked illustration, nine gallery cards that join into one larger picture. Of the 70 gallery cards, 54 share no name with any card in the main list, so the gallery works almost as a set of its own.
When did Crown Zenith come out?
On January 20, 2023. Pokémon announced it on November 3, 2022 as a special expansion releasing worldwide from that date. On January 20 it was out at participating retailers, Pokémon Center included.
Both lists use the code CRZ. Crown Zenith is the newest Sword & Shield set. Silver Tempest, the set before it, came out November 11, 2022, and the next expansion, Scarlet & Violet, on March 31, 2023. Our guide to Pokémon card eras also ends the Sword & Shield stretch with Crown Zenith.
How is Crown Zenith numbered?
In the main list, cards 001 to 122 are Pokémon, 123 to 151 are Trainer cards and 152 to 159 are eight basic Energy cards. Pikachu at 160 is the only card above the printed total. The gallery carries its own GG numbers, so a card from it never shows a number over 159.
The main list ends differently from the two other Sword & Shield sets in this group of guides. Evolving Skies and Lost Origin both end their main lists with a block of ultra rare Pokémon V followed by ultra rare Supporters. Crown Zenith’s main list has no such block of Pokémon V: its last block, 147 to 159, is five Supporters and the eight Energy cards, all ultra rare, and the special art sits in the gallery.
The main list also repeats some names, among them Shinx, Luxio and Luxray, each twice at 039 to 044, and Pawniard, twice at 091 and 092. Each of those pairs has two different illustrators.
How many cards of each tier are in the main list?
Counted by name, the V, VMAX and VSTAR cards of the main list run like this:
| Tier | Cards | Numbers | What they are |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 42 | Within 001 to 144 | 37 Pokémon and 5 Trainer cards |
| Uncommon | 29 | Within 002 to 146 | 17 Pokémon and 12 Trainer cards |
| Rare | 22 | Within 003 to 122 | Pokémon |
| Holo rare | 20 | Within 016 to 143 | 13 Pokémon and 7 Trainer cards |
| Radiant rare | 3 | 020, 051, 105 | Radiant Charizard, Radiant Charjabug, Radiant Eternatus |
| Pokémon V | 17 | Within 013 to 120 | One card each for 17 Pokémon |
| Pokémon VSTAR | 8 | Within 014 to 114 | One card each for 8 Pokémon |
| Pokémon VMAX | 5 | 054, 066, 101, 102, 104 | Zeraora, Hatterene, Rayquaza twice, Duraludon |
| Ultra rare | 13 | 147 to 159 | 5 Supporters and 8 basic Energy cards |
| Secret rare | 1 | 160 | Pikachu |
CGC’s guide gives a black circle for common, a black diamond for uncommon and a black star for rare. It also dates Pokémon V and VMAX to the Sword & Shield expansion and VSTAR to Brilliant Stars, so Crown Zenith carries all three. The Radiant Pokémon here show Shiny forms of Charizard, Charjabug and Eternatus.
What is in the Galarian Gallery?
The gallery is a 70-card subset of regular Pokémon, Pokémon V, VMAX and VSTAR, and Supporter cards, each with a special illustration. It runs in four blocks:
| Numbers | Cards | What they are |
|---|---|---|
| GG01 to GG34 | 34 | Pokémon that are not V, VMAX or VSTAR, from Hisuian Voltorb to Mareep |
| GG35 to GG56 | 22 | 10 Pokémon VSTAR, 9 Pokémon V and 3 Pokémon VMAX |
| GG57 to GG66 | 10 | Supporter cards, from Adaman to Roxanne |
| GG67 to GG70 | 4 | Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR, Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR, Giratina VSTAR and Arceus VSTAR |
All four cards at GG67 to GG70 are by one illustrator, Akira Egawa.

How much of the gallery repeats the main list?
Very little. Only 16 of the 70 gallery cards share a name with a card in the main list. They are seven Pokémon (Lunatone, Solrock, Absol, Ditto, Riolu, Bidoof and Pikachu), eight V, VMAX and VSTAR cards, and one Supporter, Raihan. The other 54 appear in Crown Zenith only in the gallery. They include all three VSTAR cards Pokémon highlighted: Mewtwo VSTAR (GG44), Darkrai VSTAR (GG50) and Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR (GG56).
What is the linked illustration?
Nine different gallery cards connect to show a larger image, and the artwork on the cards themselves shows which nine. Our guide to completing a Pokémon set explains how collectors treat a subset like this, and the glossary entry for alternate art covers the wider idea.

How do you check Crown Zenith card prices?
The two lists have separate pages in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, one for the main list and one for the Galarian Gallery, each with number, rarity and NM market price. Sort the gallery page by number to follow the four blocks above. For one card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number, and the price changes page compares prices between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.
If you plan to grade, our guide to deciding whether to grade a card covers the costs.
What should you check before buying?
- Main list or gallery. Zacian V is 095 in the main list and GG48 in the gallery, and Pikachu is 160 and GG30. Match the card number, including its GG prefix, to the card a listing describes.
- Which Rayquaza VMAX. Two Rayquaza VMAX cards sit at 101 and 102 in the main list, each by a different illustrator.
- Promo or set card. The Lucario VSTAR and Pikachu VMAX promos from the products are in neither list. Our guide to Pokémon promo cards explains how promos are marked and numbered.
- Sealed product and genuine cards. See our guides to spotting resealed Pokémon packs and spotting fake Pokémon cards.
The Pokémon hub has the rest of our coverage, and our guides to Evolving Skies, Lost Origin and Black Bolt and White Flare cover more sets the same way.
