Journey Together is an expansion in Pokémon’s Scarlet & Violet series, released March 28, 2025. It brought back Trainer’s Pokémon, cards that carry a Trainer’s name as well as the Pokémon’s, for four Trainers: N, Iono, Lillie and Hop. The set has 190 cards: 159 inside the printed total and 31 numbered above it. Of them, 45 are Trainer’s Pokémon, and N’s Zoroark ex and Iono’s Bellibolt ex are the two Pokémon ex in all four versions. It was also the first expansion sold in Enhanced Booster Displays.

When did Journey Together come out?

On March 28, 2025. Pokémon announced it on January 9, 2025, and it went on sale that day at participating retailers around the world. Its code is JTG on Rip.fan’s price page. It followed Prismatic Evolutions, released January 17, 2025, and came before Destined Rivals, released May 30, 2025.

In Japan, half of the set’s Pokémon ex were on sale first. The Japanese set SV9 went on sale January 24, 2025, in 5-card packs, ahead of Journey Together. It holds Trainer’s Pokémon for the same four Trainers. Of Journey Together’s 16 Pokémon ex, 8 appear in SV9, which has 132 cards against 190 for Journey Together.

What are Trainer’s Pokémon?

Pokémon cards named for a Trainer as well as the Pokémon, such as N’s Zoroark ex or Hop’s Snorlax. They first appeared in the Gym Heroes expansion more than 20 years ago and had not been seen since Double Crisis in 2015. Each card displays the Trainer’s name, and Trainers also feature in the art of the set’s illustration rares, ultra rares, special illustration rares and hyper rares.

In all, 45 cards are Trainer’s Pokémon: 31 in the main list, all different Pokémon, and 14 numbered above it.

Trainer Pokémon in the main list Cards in all Pokémon ex
N 11 15 N’s Zoroark ex
Hop 10 13 Hop’s Zacian ex
Iono 6 10 Iono’s Bellibolt ex
Lillie 4 7 Lillie’s Clefairy ex

The count includes only Pokémon cards. Trainer cards that share a Trainer’s name, such as N’s Castle or Lillie’s Pearl, are not Trainer’s Pokémon. Our Destined Rivals guide covers the Trainer’s Pokémon in the set that came next, including its Team Rocket’s cards.

How many cards are in Journey Together?

  1. Cards 001 to 141 are Pokémon, 142 to 158 are Trainer cards, and 159 is an Energy card.

How do the announced figures compare with the list?

The set has 16 Pokémon ex in all, and four of them are Trainer’s Pokémon, so the four and the 16 overlap and do not add up to 20.

The 11 ultra rares are 8 Pokémon ex and 3 Supporter cards, among them Brock’s Scouting and Ruffian. All 6 special illustration rares are Pokémon ex. The 3 hyper rares are Iono’s Bellibolt ex, N’s Zoroark ex and Spiky Energy. Rip.fan’s page for Journey Together uses the same eight rarities, and our guide to Pokémon rarity symbols explains each mark.

Which Pokémon ex come in which versions?

All 16 have a double rare inside the main list. Which higher versions they get varies:

Pokémon ex Double rare Ultra rare Special illustration rare Hyper rare
Amoonguss ex 011 None None None
Blaziken ex 024 None None None
Reshiram ex 030 None None None
Volcanion ex 031 171 182 None
Veluza ex 043 None None None
Tapu Koko ex 051 None None None
Iono’s Bellibolt ex 053 172 183 188
Lillie’s Clefairy ex 056 173 184 None
Mimikyu ex 069 None None None
Alcremie ex 075 None None None
Mamoswine ex 079 174 None None
Paldean Clodsire ex 094 None None None
N’s Zoroark ex 098 175 185 189
Hop’s Zacian ex 111 176 186 None
Salamence ex 114 177 187 None
Dudunsparce ex 121 178 None None

Three patterns stand out:

  • Exactly half get anything above the main list. The eight with an ultra rare are the eight that appear in SV9. The other eight appear only as double rares.
  • Every Trainer’s Pokémon ex has an ultra rare and a special illustration rare, and two of the four, Iono’s Bellibolt ex and N’s Zoroark ex, add a hyper rare.
  • Reshiram ex and N’s Reshiram are different cards. Reshiram ex is a double rare at 030. N’s Reshiram is a rare at 116 and an illustration rare at 167, and a third N’s Reshiram came as the Enhanced Booster Display promo.

Four of the 11 illustration rares are Trainer’s Pokémon: Iono’s Kilowattrel, Lillie’s Ribombee, N’s Reshiram and Hop’s Wooloo. The set’s art cards stress the bond between Pokémon and Trainers. Our guide to illustration rares sets the counts beside other sets.

How do you check Journey Together card prices?

Journey Together has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, listing the set’s cards with number, rarity and NM market price. Sort it by number and N’s Zoroark ex’s four cards sit at 098, 175, 185 and 189; filter it to see one rarity at a time. For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.

If you plan to grade, our guide to whether a card is worth grading covers the costs, and the centering checker turns border measurements into a centering split.

What should you check before buying?

  1. The version. N’s Zoroark ex is four different cards here: 098, 175, 185 and 189. Match the card number to the rarity a listing claims.
  2. The name. Reshiram ex and N’s Reshiram are separate cards with separate numbers, so read the whole name.
  3. The language. Japanese printings have their own numbers. N’s Zoroark ex is 061 in SV9 and 098 in Journey Together. Our Japanese and English cards guide explains the differences.
  4. Box contents. A Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box lists 11 packs and two promos, against 9 packs and one promo in the standard box. Check a sealed item against the table, and see our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs.
  5. Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.

The Pokémon hub has the rest of our coverage, and our guides to Surging Sparks, Paldean Fates and the Mega Evolution set cover more sets the same way.
