Outlaws of Thunder Junction went on sale in stores on April 19, 2024, under the set code OTJ. Wizards calls it Magic’s first Western-themed set, set on a new frontier plane called Thunder Junction. The set has 374 entries, which are 276 different cards. It came out after Wizards brought in the Play Booster, and its Play Boosters hold cards with four set codes.

How is Outlaws of Thunder Junction numbered?

Collector numbers run from 1 to 374 with no gaps, and each number holds a single entry, so the 374 entries are 374 printings. They group like this:

Collector numbers Printings What sits there
1 to 265 265 265 different cards, ending with Bucolic Ranch at 265
266 to 271 6 Six more new cards: five Rares, from Blooming Marsh to Spirebluff Canal, and Jace Reawakened, a Mythic Rare
272 to 276 5 Basic lands, one of each type
277 to 286 10 Basic lands again, two more of each type
287 to 306 20 Repeats, among them Tinybones, the Pickpocket (109 and 290) and the five Rares from 266 to 270 (300 to 304)
307 to 374 68 More repeats of earlier cards

Wizards previewed Oko, the Ringleader and Tinybones in a wanted poster version, and both appear again in the 287 to 306 run.

In all, 186 cards have one printing, 82 have two and 8 have three: the five basic land types and three other cards, among them Oko, the Ringleader (223, 296 and 305).

What rarities are in Outlaws of Thunder Junction?

Rarity counts list each card once, at its first collector number:

Rarity Cards in OTJ First numbered 1 to 265 First numbered 266 to 276
Common 81 81 None
Uncommon 100 100 None
Rare 60 55 5
Mythic Rare 20 19 1
Land 15 10, such as Lush Oasis at 261 5, the basics

The column adds up to 276, the number of different cards, so no card sits at two rarities. Our Magic card rarities guide shows each rarity symbol.

What are the four codes in a Play Booster?

The set’s Play Boosters hold cards with the codes OTJ, OTP, BIG and SPG. Each code counts like this:

Code What it holds Entries Different cards Rarities
OTJ The main set 374 on numbers 1 to 374 276 81 Common, 100 Uncommon, 60 Rare, 20 Mythic Rare, 15 Land
OTP Breaking News, an extra sheet 82 on numbers 1 to 80 65 20 Uncommon, 30 Rare, 15 Mythic Rare
BIG A 30-card subset with its own symbol 90 on numbers 1 to 95 30 All Mythic Rare

SPG holds the Special Guests, a list of its own.

Some details behind those rows:

  • OTP. Numbers 66 to 80 repeat 15 of the 65 cards. One card has two halves, listed as two entries at 39 and again at 75, which is why 80 numbers give 82 entries. Breaking News cards come in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, with textured foil versions only in Collector Boosters.
  • BIG. Its 30 cards appear three times, in the same order, at 1 to 30, 31 to 60 and 66 to 95, and nothing is listed at 61 to 65. These 30 Mythic Rares have their own set symbol and code, and a frame of their own on some cards, and can come in a vault frame. A raised foil vault frame version is found only in Collector Boosters.
  • SPG and BIG in Play Boosters. Special Guests cards and BIG cards, without the vault frame, can turn up in a position set aside for them in Play Boosters.

How did the packs change from 2023?

Set and Draft Boosters were combined into the Play Booster starting with the February 2024 set.

In general, a Play Booster holds at least one card of rare or higher and at least one foil card, and a Collector Booster 5 to 6 cards of rare or higher and 8 to 10 foil cards or more. For this set, every Collector Booster holds five cards of rarity Rare or higher. Our guides to Wilds of Eldraine and The Lost Caverns of Ixalan cover the 2023 packs in detail.

What products came out for Outlaws of Thunder Junction?

  • Collector Boosters: foils, special treatments found only there, and five cards of rarity Rare or higher in every pack.
  • Play Boosters: at least one foil card in every pack, and a pack can hold more than one Rare.
  • Bundle: 30 land cards, 10 of them full-art Western landscape lands, accessories found only in the Bundle and nine Play Boosters.
  • Commander Decks: four, each bringing 10 Commander cards never seen before. OTC has 343 entries.

The Collector Booster entry and our Magic Collector Boosters guide explain that pack type.

What should you check before you buy?

  • The code. OTJ, OTP, BIG, SPG and OTC are separate codes with their own collector numbers, so a listing should give both the code and the collector number.
  • The printing. Oko, the Ringleader has three printings, and each BIG card has three.
  • Factory wrap. Any booster box is sealed product; our guide to storing sealed product explains how to keep it that way.

How do you check Outlaws of Thunder Junction card prices?

Rip.fan’s card price lookup and price pages do not include Magic; they list English Pokémon cards only. For an OTJ card, start from the code and the collector number, then look only at sold listings for that exact printing and finish, and note the date of each sale. Our guides to checking Magic card prices and finding what a card sold for set out the method, and spotting fake Magic cards covers the checks before you pay.

The seller fee calculator shows what a sale leaves you after fees on TCGplayer or Whatnot, and the trading card hub gathers every Magic set guide.
