How the calculator works
For each marketplace, the calculator charges every fee on what that marketplace charges it on, rounds it to the cent the way the marketplace does, and adds the fees up. The rules it uses are listed fee by fee below, with the pages they come from.
The order total is the card, the shipping and the sales tax together. The calculator works the tax out on the card and the shipping, as TCGplayer's own examples do; what a buyer actually pays in tax depends on where they live.
What you keep is the sale price less the fees. The shipping the buyer pays is left out of it, because it goes on postage: on TCGplayer you collect it and buy the postage, and on Whatnot the buyer pays for the label Whatnot makes. Supplies, insurance and a signature come on top.
eBay is not included. Check eBay's own fee page before you list there.
Where the figures come from
Every figure comes from the marketplace's own pages, read on . A marketplace can change its fees on any day, so check its fee page on the day you list.
TCGplayer, Marketplace seller, levels 1 to 4
- Commission on the card: 10.75% of the card's price, capped at $75.00 a card.
- Commission on shipping: 10.75% of the shipping.
- Transaction fee: 2.5% of the order total, plus $0.30.
- TCGplayer rounds each fee to the cent with banker's rounding, so an amount of exactly half a cent goes to the even cent.
- The $75 cap applies to each card in an order, and the commission on shipping has no cap.
- Pro, Direct and sync sellers pay different rates, which the calculator leaves out.
- You collect the shipping the buyer pays and buy the postage with it.

Whatnot, US seller at the standard tier, selling sports or TCG singles
- Commission: 8% of the first $1,500.00 of the card's price.
- Commission on the part above $1,500: 0% of the part of the card's price above $1,500.00, a limited-time promotion since January 14, 2026.
- Payment processing: 2.9% of the order total, plus $0.30.
- Whatnot does not say how it rounds a fee, so the calculator rounds each one to the nearest cent, a half cent up.
- Whatnot's commission drops in steps for sellers whose sales in a four-week period reach $15,000 or more, down to 6.50% for sports and TCG at $500,000 or more. The calculator uses the standard 8%.
- The 0% commission above $1,500 covers items in the TCG category and the sports Singles subcategories. Sports breaks and surprise products are left out of it, and Whatnot can end it at any time.
- The buyer pays for shipping by default, and Whatnot makes the label after the sale.

Frequently asked questions
Why is eBay not included?
Its fee pages could not be used as a source for this calculator, so it covers TCGplayer and Whatnot only. Check eBay's own fee page before you list there.
Does sales tax change the fees?
Yes, a little. TCGplayer's transaction fee and Whatnot's payment processing fee are both charged on the order total, which includes the tax, so a higher rate raises them. The tax itself is not part of what you keep.
Do sellers who sell more pay less?
On Whatnot, yes. Its US commission for sports and TCG drops in steps once a seller's sales in a four-week period reach $15,000, down to 6.50% at $500,000 or more. The calculator uses the standard 8%. On TCGplayer, Pro, Direct and sync sellers pay different rates, which the calculator leaves out.
How does TCGplayer's $75 cap work?
TCGplayer's commission on a card stops at $75, which it reaches on a card priced above about $698. The cap applies to each card, so two $1,000 cards in one order pay $150, and the commission on shipping has no cap.
