Play Booster

Play Booster is the name of Magic: The Gathering's main pack since 2024. It replaced both the Draft and Set boosters and holds 14 cards, with a guaranteed rare or mythic rare.

In more detail

Wizards of the Coast brought in Play Booster packs with Murders at Karlov Manor in early 2024 and folded the older Draft and Set boosters into one product. The pack is built to suit both opening for the cards and Limited events such as Draft and Sealed.

A Play Booster pack holds 14 cards: commons and uncommons, at least one rare or mythic rare, and a wildcard card of any rarity in the set. In some packs, as Wizards described it in January 2024, a card from The List, a selection of reprints from across Magic's history, takes the place of a common.

Collector Boosters are a separate premium product, so do not mix the two up. A Play Booster box held 36 packs at first. The trade news site ICv2 reported on December 12, 2024 that Wizards' product details for Aetherdrift put 30 in the box instead, so the count depends on the set. Retailer listings show a Collector Booster box holds 12 packs of its own, so read the label on the box.

Wizards said on October 5, 2026 that the Play Booster is now simply called the Booster Pack, and its notice to stores ties the new name to Nauctis, the first Magic set of 2027, due February 5, 2027. Wizards calls this a name change, not a new product, but it is also changing some pack contents from that set on, so check the set when you compare a Booster Pack with an older Play Booster.
