The Lost Caverns of Ixalan went on sale in stores in November 2023, under the set code LCI. The set sends the plane’s explorers down into caverns full of treasure, ancient gods and, of course, dinosaurs. It has 465 entries, which are 291 different cards on 409 collector numbers. Three more codes came with it.

When did The Lost Caverns of Ixalan come out?

What Date
Debut stream and start of previews October 24, 2023
Card previews October 24 to November 1
Prerelease events November 10 to 16
Set release, in stores November 2023
Bundle: Gift Edition December 8, 2023

Which day in November?

Wizards gives two different days in November, so Rip.fan gives the month only. The set sits between Wilds of Eldraine, on sale September 8, 2023, and the set that brought in the Play Booster on February 9, 2024, under the code MKM. Set and Draft Boosters were combined into the Play Booster starting with that set, so LCI was among the sets sold with Draft and Set Boosters.

Which cards have two faces?

Of the 409 collector numbers, 56 hold a card with two named faces, and each face is its own entry. By Rip.fan’s arithmetic, 409 numbers plus 56 second faces makes 465 entries. Those 56 numbers hold 36 different cards: at their first number, 5 are Common, 12 Uncommon, 12 Rare and 7 Mythic Rare.

Two examples. Huatli, Poet of Unity, whose other face is Roar of the Fifth People, sits at 189, 296 and 339. Five cards pair a name with a temple, such as Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might // Temple of Power, a god. They first appear at 26, 67, 88, 158 and 204 and again at 314 to 318. When you look up any of these, search under both names and check the number.

How is The Lost Caverns of Ixalan numbered?

Collector numbers run from 1 to 409 with no gaps. Grouped by range:

Collector numbers Printings What is there
1 to 286 286 286 different cards, from Abuelo’s Awakening at 1 to Volatile Fault at 286
287 to 291 5 Basic lands, one of each type
292 to 392 101 Repeats only, among them Breeches, Eager Pillager (137 and 294), the five temple cards (314 to 318) and Cavern of Souls (269 and 345)
393 to 402 10 Basic lands again, two more of each type
403 to 409 7 Seven more repeats, Bartolomé del Presidio among them (224, 301 and 409)

Nothing new appears above the basic lands: every number from 292 on repeats a card from 1 to 291. Breeches has a Legends of Ixalan version and Ojer Axonil a Gods of Ixalan version, and both come a second time in the 292 to 392 run.

183 cards have one printing, 98 have two and 10 have three. The ten are the five basic land types and five other cards, among them Huatli, Jadelight Spelunker (196, 382 and 403) and Quintorius Kand (238, 307 and 352).

What rarities are in The Lost Caverns of Ixalan?

By rarity, counting each card once at its first collector number:

Rarity Cards in LCI Where they first appear
Common 101 1 to 286
Uncommon 92 1 to 286
Rare 64 1 to 286
Mythic Rare 22 1 to 286
Land 12 Seven at 268 to 279, such as Hidden Courtyard, plus the basics at 287 to 291

The column adds up to 291, the number of different cards, so no card sits at two rarities. Our Magic card rarities guide shows each rarity symbol.

Which codes came with the set, and where do they turn up?

The set came with four codes:

Code What it holds Size Where the cards come
LCI The main set 465 entries, 291 cards Draft, Set and Collector Boosters
REX Jurassic World Collection 33 entries on numbers 1 to 26 1 in every 12 Set Boosters, one in every Collector Booster, one in each Bundle, and a traditional foil one in each Bundle: Gift Edition

LCC The Commander decks and the Treasure Trove box toppers 379 entries Four Commander decks, and a box topper card with each display

The Jurassic World Collection cards show characters, dinosaurs and places from the Jurassic World franchise, as part of Wizards’ Universes Beyond series, with their own expansion symbol. There are 26 of them. Numbers 21 to 26 are each listed twice, marked a and b, and the card at 7 has two faces, which together make 33 entries.

The Treasure Trove box toppers are artifacts, non-foil with Draft and Set Booster displays and traditional foil with Collector Booster displays. Every Draft Booster box holds one, with borderless alternate art. Special Guests made its first appearance with this set.

Our Wilds of Eldraine guide sets Wizards’ product-guide figures for Draft, Set and Collector Boosters side by side, and the Collector Booster entry explains that pack type.

What should you check before you buy?

  • The code. LCI, LCC, REX and SPG each have their own numbering, so a listing should give the code and the collector number, not only the set name.
  • Both faces. A two-faced card is listed under two names, and some have two or three printings.
  • Bundle or Gift Edition. Of the two, only the Gift Edition lists a Collector Booster.
  • Factory wrap. Any booster box is sealed product; our guide to storing sealed product explains how to keep it that way.

How do you check Lost Caverns of Ixalan card prices?

Rip.fan’s card price lookup and price pages do not include Magic; they list English Pokémon cards only. For an LCI card, start from the code and the collector number, because one name can cover up to three printings. Then look only at sold listings for that exact printing and finish, and note the date of each sale. Our guides to checking Magic card prices and finding what a card sold for set out the method, and spotting fake Magic cards covers the checks before you pay.

The seller fee calculator shows what a sale leaves you after fees on TCGplayer or Whatnot. For the next releases, see our guides to Outlaws of Thunder Junction and Modern Horizons 3, or the trading card hub.
