Unified Minds is an expansion in Pokémon’s Sun & Moon series, released August 2, 2019. Its lead cards are the TAG TEAM Pokémon-GX, the cards that pair two Pokémon on one card, and it has eight new ones, including Mewtwo & Mew-GX and Garchomp & Giratina-GX. Unified Minds has 258 cards: 236 numbered up to the printed total and 22 above it.

When did Unified Minds come out?

On August 2, 2019. Pokémon announced the set on June 6, 2019, saying it would come out around the world on August 2.

It followed Unbroken Bonds, released May 3, 2019. Hidden Fates came next, and Cosmic Eclipse, the last set of the Sun & Moon series, followed on November 1, 2019. Team Up came out earlier that year, on February 1. On Rip.fan’s price pages, Unified Minds carries the code UNM. Our guide to Pokémon card eras places the Sun & Moon series in the longer history.

How many cards are in Unified Minds?

  1. The number blocks run like this:
Numbers Cards What they are
1 to 185 185 Pokémon, including 8 TAG TEAM cards and 9 Pokémon-GX
186 to 211 26 Trainer cards: 9 Supporters, 6 Items, 6 Tools and 5 Stadiums
212 to 213 2 Special Energy: Recycle Energy and Weakness Guard Energy
214 to 230 17 Second versions of TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards, labeled Rare Ultra on Rip.fan’s page
231 to 236 6 Second versions of six Supporters, also labeled Rare Ultra
237 to 249 13 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards labeled Rare Rainbow
250 to 258 9 Seven Trainer cards and the two Special Energy, labeled Rare Secret

The last 22 carry a number above 236. A card numbered higher than the set number is a secret rare, and it usually has a lower-rarity card of the same name in its set.

How many cards of each rarity?

The 258 cards split by tier like this:

Tier Cards Where they sit
Common 65 Within 2 to 180
Uncommon 72 Within 3 to 213
Rare 59 Within 4 to 184; 21 of them carry the label Rare Holo on Rip.fan’s price pages
Ultra Rare 40 The 17 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards of the main run, plus 214 to 236
Secret Rare 22 237 to 258

The small symbol beside a card’s number marks its tier: a black star for a rare, a black diamond for an uncommon and a black circle for a common. Pokémon-GX cards date to the Sun & Moon expansion, and Tag Team cards are one of the special Pokémon card types.

Where does each TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX card sit?

The 17 names sit across the main run, the Rare Ultra block and the Rare Rainbow block like this:

Name Main run Rare Ultra, 214 to 230 Rare Rainbow, 237 to 249
Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX 1 214 and 215 237
Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX 35 217 and 218 239
Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX 54 220 and 221 241
Mega Sableye & Tyranitar-GX 126 225 and 226 245
Mewtwo & Mew-GX 71 222 242
Garchomp & Giratina-GX 146 228 247
Espeon & Deoxys-GX, Umbreon & Darkrai-GX 72, 125 None None
Heatran-GX, Keldeo-GX, Latios-GX 25, 47, 78 216, 219, 223 238, 240, 243
Aerodactyl-GX, Mawile-GX, Dragonite-GX, Naganadel-GX 106, 141, 152, 160 224, 227, 229, 230 244, 246, 248, 249
Jirachi-GX, Weavile-GX 79, 132 None None

Three patterns stand out:

  • Four names have one card in the set. Espeon & Deoxys-GX and Umbreon & Darkrai-GX are TAG TEAM cards with no card in the Rare Ultra block at 214 to 230 or the Rare Rainbow block at 237 to 249. Jirachi-GX and Weavile-GX are the same. That is twice as many single-card names as Team Up, which has two.
  • Four TAG TEAM cards have two Rare Ultra versions. Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX, Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX, Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX and Mega Sableye & Tyranitar-GX each have a pair. The second card of each pair, at 215, 218, 221 and 226, has a different illustrator from the first.
  • One illustrator for the main-run TAG TEAM cards. Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated all eight, from 1 to 146, and Team Up’s five as well.

Which cards above 236 break the pattern?

The secret rare rule of thumb, a lower-rarity card of the same name in the set, holds for 21 of the 22. The Rare Rainbow cards at 237 to 249 each repeat a TAG TEAM or Pokémon-GX from the main run, and the Rare Secret cards at 250 to 258 repeat Items, Tools and both Special Energy cards. The exception is Viridian Forest, a Stadium at 256: no card of that name appears lower in Unified Minds. Team Up has a Viridian Forest at 156, so its lower-rarity card sits in the earlier set.

The six Supporters at 231 to 236 each repeat one of the nine from the main run: Blue’s Tactics, Channeler, Coach Trainer, Grimsley, Misty’s Favor and Poké Maniac.

What products held Unified Minds packs?

At launch the set was out in booster packs and special collections, among other products. Check the wrapper for how many cards each booster pack held. For how recent products are laid out, see our guides to Elite Trainer Boxes and Pokémon sealed products. Our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs covers the signs of a pack that was opened and sealed again.

How do you check Unified Minds card prices?

Unified Minds has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, under the Sun & Moon series heading. It lists each priced card with its number, rarity and NM market price. Filter it by Rare Holo GX to see the 17 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards of the main run, by Rare Rainbow for the 13 at 237 to 249, or by Rare Secret for the nine at 250 to 258. Sort it by card number to see Mewtwo & Mew-GX at 71, 222 and 242.

For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks. Our guide to completing a Pokémon set explains numbered, complete and master sets.

What should you check before buying a Unified Minds card?

  1. The set name as well as the total. Unified Minds and Cosmic Eclipse share the same printed total, 236, so 216/236 could be either set until you check the name.
  2. The number within a pair. Four TAG TEAM cards have two Rare Ultra versions, so the card number tells 214 from 215 or 225 from 226.
  3. The finish. Above 236, Rip.fan’s page separates Rare Rainbow from Rare Secret. Our guide to Pokémon card finishes explains holofoil, reverse holo and full art.
  4. Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.
