Cosmic Eclipse is an expansion in Pokémon’s Sun & Moon series, released November 1, 2019. It is the last set in the series. The set brings two new TAG TEAM trios, Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX and Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX, and TAG TEAM Supporter cards that show two characters on one card. It has 271 cards: 236 numbered up to the printed total and 35 above it.

When did Cosmic Eclipse come out?

On November 1, 2019. Pokémon announced the set on August 28, 2019, saying it would come out worldwide on November 1.

It followed Hidden Fates, released August 23, 2019, and Unified Minds, released August 2, 2019. The Sword & Shield set followed on February 7, 2020. On Rip.fan’s price pages Cosmic Eclipse has the code CEC. Our guide to Pokémon card eras places the Sun & Moon series, from the Sun & Moon base set of 2017 to this one, in the longer history.

How many cards are in Cosmic Eclipse?

  1. The number blocks run like this:
Numbers Cards What they are
1 to 184 184 Pokémon, including 9 TAG TEAM cards and 7 Pokémon-GX
185 to 208 24 Trainer cards: 15 Supporters, 5 Items, 3 Tools and 1 Stadium
209 1 A Special Energy card, Draw Energy
210 to 227 18 Second versions of TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards, labeled Rare Ultra on Rip.fan’s page
228 to 236 9 Second versions of nine Supporters, also labeled Rare Ultra
237 to 248 12 Pokémon cards with no GX in their names, labeled Rare Secret
249 to 262 14 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards labeled Rare Rainbow
263 to 271 9 Eight Trainer cards and the Special Energy, labeled Rare Secret

The 35 cards above 236 are more than in Team Up or Unified Minds, which have 15 and 22. A card numbered higher than the set number is a secret rare.

How many cards of each rarity?

The cards break down by tier like this:

Tier Cards Where they sit
Common 67 Within 2 to 181
Uncommon 66 Within 3 to 209
Rare 60 Within 8 to 204; 22 of them are labeled Rare Holo on Rip.fan’s price pages
Ultra Rare 43 The 16 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards of the main run, plus 210 to 236
Secret Rare 35 237 to 271

In CGC’s guide, the small symbol beside a card’s number marks its tier: a black star for a rare, a black diamond for an uncommon and a black circle for a common. CGC dates Pokémon-GX cards to the Sun & Moon expansion and lists Tag Team cards among its special Pokémon card types.

Which Supporters show two characters?

Each TAG TEAM Supporter pictures two characters on one Trainer card, such as Cynthia & Caitlin and Red & Blue. Six Supporters in the main run join two names with an ampersand: Bellelba & Brycen-Man at 186, Cynthia & Caitlin at 189, Guzma & Hala at 193, Mallow & Lana at 198, Misty & Lorelei at 199 and Red & Blue at 202. Four of them, Cynthia & Caitlin, Guzma & Hala, Mallow & Lana and Red & Blue, also have a Rare Ultra version at 228 to 236.

Where does each TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX card sit?

The 16 names sit across the main run, the Rare Ultra block and the Rare Rainbow block like this:

Name Main run Rare Ultra, 210 to 227 Rare Rainbow, 249 to 262
Venusaur & Snivy-GX 1 210 249
Charizard & Braixen-GX 22 212 251
Blastoise & Piplup-GX 38 214 and 215 253
Solgaleo & Lunala-GX 75 216 254
Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX 143 None None
Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX 156 220 and 221 258
Reshiram & Zekrom-GX 157 222 259
Naganadel & Guzzlord-GX 158 223 and 224 260
Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff-GX 165 225 and 226 261
Vileplume-GX, Volcarona-GX 4, 35 211, 213 250, 252
Oricorio-GX, Flygon-GX, Alolan Persian-GX 95, 110, 129 217, 218, 219 255, 256, 257
Silvally-GX 184 227 262
Wishiwashi-GX 63 None None
  • One trio has a single card. Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff-GX appears only at 143, while the other trio, Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX, has four cards. Wishiwashi-GX at 63 is the other single-card name.
  • Four TAG TEAM cards have two Rare Ultra versions. Blastoise & Piplup-GX, Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX, Naganadel & Guzzlord-GX and Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff-GX each have a pair. The second card of each pair, at 215, 221, 224 and 226, has a different illustrator from the first.
  • Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise come only in pairs. Each appears in a TAG TEAM card, at 1, 22 and 38, and none of the three has a card of its own in the set.

Hidden Fates came first with a trio card. Pokémon’s launch notice for that set, of August 23, 2019, called Moltres & Zapdos & Articuno-GX the first TAG TEAM trio card. The Cosmic Eclipse notices call its two trios new.

Which cards above 236 have no lower-numbered twin?

A secret rare usually has a lower-rarity card of the same name in its set. Of the 35 cards above 236, 32 do:

  • 237 to 248. Twelve Pokémon cards with no GX in their names, from Torkoal to Stoutland, each sharing a name with a card in the main run. Pokémon described special versions of select cards illustrated with Pokémon and their Trainers.
  • 249 to 262. The 14 Rare Rainbow cards, each repeating a TAG TEAM or Pokémon-GX from the main run.
  • 263 to 271. Four Items and a Tool repeat cards from the main run, and Draw Energy at 271 repeats the card at 209.

The three exceptions are Stadiums. Giant Hearth at 263, Martial Arts Dojo at 268 and Power Plant at 269 have no card of the same name lower in the set. They appeared earlier: Giant Hearth at 197 in Unified Minds, and Martial Arts Dojo at 179 and Power Plant at 183 in Unbroken Bonds.

What products held Cosmic Eclipse packs?

Pokémon named no products when it announced and launched the set. Check the wrapper for how many cards each booster pack held. For how recent products are laid out, see our guides to Elite Trainer Boxes and Pokémon sealed products. Our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs covers the signs of a pack that was opened and sealed again.

How do you check Cosmic Eclipse card prices?

Cosmic Eclipse has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, under the Sun & Moon series heading. It lists each priced card with its number, rarity and NM market price. Filter it by Rare Holo GX to see the 16 TAG TEAM and Pokémon-GX cards of the main run, by Rare Rainbow for the 14 at 249 to 262, or by Rare Secret for the 21 cards at 237 to 248 and 263 to 271. Sort it by card number to follow Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX from 156 to 220, 221 and 258.

For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks. If you plan to grade a card, our guide to whether a card is worth grading covers the costs.

What should you check before buying a Cosmic Eclipse card?

  1. The set name as well as the total. Cosmic Eclipse and Unified Minds share the same printed total, 236, so a number such as 221/236 needs the set name beside it.
  2. The number within a pair. Four TAG TEAM cards have two Rare Ultra versions, so the card number tells 220 from 221 or 225 from 226.
  3. The finish. Above 236, Rip.fan’s page separates Rare Rainbow from Rare Secret. Our guide to Pokémon card finishes explains holofoil, reverse holo and full art.
  4. Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.

The Pokémon hub has the rest of our coverage, and our guides to Team Up and Evolutions cover two earlier sets.
