Rebel Clash is the second expansion in Pokémon’s Sword & Shield series, released May 1, 2020, and Pokémon announced it in February 2020 as the next expansion. It holds 209 cards: 192 numbered up to the printed total and 17 above it. Its headline cards are seven Pokémon VMAX, among them the final forms of Galar’s three first partner Pokémon, Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon, and each of the seven has four V and VMAX cards.

When did Rebel Clash come out?

On May 1, 2020. Pokémon announced the set on February 21, 2020, with a worldwide release on May 1. At launch it was available around the world, including at participating online stores.

Rebel Clash came after the Sword & Shield base set of February 7, 2020, and before Darkness Ablaze of August 14, 2020. On Rip.fan’s price pages its code is RCL. Our guide to Pokémon card eras places the Sword & Shield series in the longer history.

How many cards are in Rebel Clash?

  1. The number blocks run like this:
Numbers Cards What they are
001 to 153 153 Pokémon, including 16 Pokémon V and 7 Pokémon VMAX
154 to 170 17 Trainer cards: 6 Supporters, 6 Items, 3 Stadiums and 2 Tools
171 to 174 4 Special Energy: Capture, Horror Psychic, Speed Lightning and Twin Energy
175 to 188 14 Full-art Pokémon V
189 to 192 4 Full-art Supporters: Boss’s Orders, Milo, Oleana and Sonia
193 to 203 11 Labeled rainbow rares on Rip.fan’s page: the seven VMAX and the four Supporters again
204 to 209 6 Labeled secret rares on Rip.fan’s page: Frosmoth, Galarian Perrserker, Big Charm, Scoop Up Net, Tool Scrapper and Twin Energy

As in the Sword & Shield set, the full-art cards sit inside the printed total, so a full-art Dragapult V reads 183/192. Only the last 17 carry a number above 192, which is what CGC means by a secret rare: a card numbered higher than the set number.

How many cards of each rarity?

The tiers, with the V and VMAX cards sorted by name:

Tier Cards Numbers
Common 50 Within 001 to 151
Uncommon 51 Within 002 to 174
Rare 32 Within 003 to 152
Holo rare 18 Within 022 to 154
Pokémon V 16 Within 017 to 153, one for each Pokémon
Pokémon VMAX 7 Within 018 to 137
Ultra rare 18 175 to 192
Secret rare 17 193 to 209

The small symbol beside a card’s number marks its tier: a black star for a rare, a black diamond for an uncommon and a black circle for a common. On Rip.fan’s price page the upper tiers carry the labels Rare Holo V, Rare Holo VMAX and Rare Ultra, and the 17 secret rares split into 11 Rare Rainbow and 6 Rare Secret. Boss’s Orders is the only Trainer card among the holo rares, at 154.

Which Pokémon have V and VMAX cards?

Sixteen Pokémon have a Pokémon V card. Unlike the Sword & Shield set, where Zacian V and Zamazenta V had secret rare versions, no Pokémon V here has a card above 192. The 16 split into three groups:

Pokémon Pokémon V VMAX Full-art V Rainbow VMAX
Rillaboom 017 018 175 193
Cinderace 035 036 178 194
Inteleon 049 050 180 195
Toxtricity 070 071 182 196
Dragapult 092 093 183 197
Malamar 121 122 186 198
Copperajah 136 137 187 199
Eldegoss, Ninetales, Milotic, Boltund, Sandaconda, Falinks, Dubwool 019, 026, 043, 067, 108, 110, 153 None 176, 177, 179, 181, 184, 185, 188 None
Eiscue, Pincurchin 055, 072 None None None
  • Every VMAX Pokémon has exactly four V and VMAX cards. The seven run in the same order in all four blocks, from Rillaboom to Copperajah. Toxtricity and Dragapult also have plain cards, at 069 and 091.
  • Seven Pokémon V have a full-art version and no VMAX. Ninetales V at 026 and 177 and Milotic V at 043 and 179 are two of them.
  • Two Pokémon V have no full-art version. Eiscue V at 055 and Pincurchin V at 072 are their only V cards, though Eiscue also has a plain card at 054.

A Pokémon V is a Basic Pokémon with a stylized V after its name, and it can evolve into a Pokémon VMAX. Toxtricity VMAX is based on the Pokémon’s Gigantamax form. Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon are evolutions of Galar’s first partner Pokémon.

Which cards above 192 have no regular twin?

A secret rare usually has a lower-rarity card of the same name in its set. In Rebel Clash, 15 of the 17 do. The two that do not are Frosmoth at 204 and Big Charm at 206: neither name appears inside the printed total. Both names appear in the Sword & Shield set, Frosmoth at 064 and Big Charm at 158.

The four Supporters repeat across three blocks. Boss’s Orders, Milo, Oleana and Sonia each have a regular card at 154 to 170, a full-art card at 189 to 192 and a rainbow card at 200 to 203. Twin Energy appears twice, at 174 and as a secret rare at 209, and Capture Energy, at 171 here, comes back as a secret rare in Darkness Ablaze at 201.

What products held Rebel Clash packs?

Pokémon said the set would arrive in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and special collections, among other formats. Check the box or the wrapper for how many cards each booster pack held. For how recent products are laid out, see our guides to Elite Trainer Boxes and Pokémon sealed products. Our guide to spotting resealed Pokémon packs covers the signs of a pack that was opened and sealed again.

How do you check Rebel Clash card prices?

Rebel Clash has its own page in Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, under the Sword & Shield series heading. It lists each priced card with its number, rarity and NM market price. Filter it by Rare Holo VMAX to see the seven VMAX at once, or sort it by card number to follow one Pokémon through its versions, such as Dragapult from its plain card at 091 to 092, 093, 183 and 197. For a single card, the card price lookup searches by name, set or number and shows which printing each price is for, and the price changes page shows moves between Rip.fan’s weekly checks.

If you plan to grade a card, the centering checker turns border measurements into a centering split.

What should you check before buying a Rebel Clash card?

  1. The number. Seven Pokémon have four V and VMAX cards each. The card number separates the regular V below 154 from the full-art V at 175 to 188, and the regular VMAX from the rainbow one above 192.
  2. The set. Rillaboom, Cinderace and Inteleon have regular cards in the Sword & Shield set and VMAX cards here, so a listing needs the set name as well as the Pokémon. A Rebel Clash card reads out of 192.
  3. The finish. Above 192, Rip.fan’s page separates rainbow rares from secret rares. Our guide to Pokémon card finishes explains holofoil, reverse holo and full art.
  4. Genuine cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards walks through checks that leave a card unharmed.
