Dominaria United went on sale in stores on September 9, 2022, under the set code DMU. Wizards bills it as a trip back to where Magic began, and the set leans on that history with two extras for collectors: original 1994 Legends cards in some Collector Boosters, and 20 new Legends Retold cards as box toppers. The set has 434 entries, which are 271 different cards.

How is Dominaria United numbered?

Collector numbers run from 1 to 434 with no gaps and one entry at each. They group like this:

Collector numbers Printings What is there
1 to 261 261 261 different cards, from Karn, Living Legacy at 1 to Yavimaya Coast at 261
262 to 276 15 Basic lands, three of each type
277 to 281 5 Basic lands again, one more of each type
282 to 286 5 Five Rares seen nowhere earlier, from Serra Redeemer to Briar Hydra
287 to 327 41 Repeats of 41 earlier cards: 20 Uncommons, 14 Rares and 7 Mythic Rares at their first numbers
328 to 368 41 The same 41 cards again, in the same order
369 to 376 8 Sheoldred, the Apocalypse once more, Ajani, Sleeper Agent four more times, and Karn, Living Legacy, Liliana of the Veil and Jaya, Fiery Negotiator once each
377 to 382 6 Six Rares from the main run, from Adarkar Wastes to Yavimaya Coast
383 to 427 45 Repeats of 40 Rares and 5 Mythic Rares, ending with the five from 282 to 286
428 to 434 7 Seven more repeats, Llanowar Loamspeaker (170, 416 and 428) among them

Several stretches of numbers line up with the set’s special treatments:

  • The two runs of 41. The set has 41 legendary creatures, 20 Uncommon, 14 Rare and 7 Mythic Rare, all given a showcase stained-glass treatment, and a textured-foil version of those same 41 comes only in Collector Boosters. The two runs of 41 cards repeat with exactly that split.
  • Ajani’s five printings. Ajani, Sleeper Agent has five versions: a regular one, a borderless one, a Phyrexian art version, a borderless Phyrexian art version and one printed in the Phyrexian language. They sit at 192, 370, 371, 375 and 376.
  • Six Rare lands. The article says the set’s six Rare dual lands come in borderless versions, and 377 to 382 repeat six Rares, Adarkar Wastes to Yavimaya Coast.
  • The five Rares at 282 to 286. The five new cards made for the set’s Jumpstart Boosters also come in extended art, and the stretch at 383 to 427 ends with exactly those five Rares.

165 cards have one printing, 57 have two, 42 have three, six have four and one has five. The six are Sheoldred, the Apocalypse (107, 290, 331 and 369) and the five basic land types; the one is Ajani.

What rarities are in Dominaria United?

By rarity, with each card counted once at its first collector number:

Rarity Cards in DMU First numbered 1 to 261 First numbered elsewhere
Common 91 91 None
Uncommon 80 80 None
Rare 65 60 5, at 282 to 286
Mythic Rare 20 20 None
Land 15 10, such as Sunlit Marsh 5, the basic land types

The column of totals adds up to 271, the number of different cards, so no card sits at two rarities. Our Magic card rarities guide shows what each rarity symbol looks like.

What are Lost Legends?

Real cards from Legends, a Magic set from 1994. Cases of the old set turned up in a warehouse, and Wizards opened the packs and placed the cards in Dominaria United Collector Boosters.

  • About 3% of Collector Boosters hold one, and it takes the place of a foil common.
  • Every Lost Legends card is in English and non-foil, and rarities range from common to rare.
  • They are not reprints. Some cards from the 1994 set never turned up in the packs Wizards opened, and the article lists those it left out.

The Collector Booster is the only DMU pack with a Lost Legends card. Since these are 1994 printings, check one’s condition as you would any old card before thinking about grading; our guide to grading Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece cards covers that step.

What are Legends Retold?

Twenty new cards reimagining characters from the 1994 Legends set: 5 Uncommons, 10 Rares and 5 Mythic Rares. They carry the DMC symbol, not DMU. Every Set, Draft and Collector Booster display holds a foil Legends Retold box topper, and foil-etched and non-foil versions come only in Collector Boosters, with every Collector Booster holding one Legends Retold Uncommon.

Which pack holds which treatment?

Treatment Draft Booster Set Booster Collector Booster
Stained-glass legendary creatures (41) Yes, foil and non-foil A non-foil Uncommon one in every pack, more possible A foil Uncommon one in every pack, more possible
Textured foil on those 41 No No One in every pack

Borderless Rare dual lands (6) Yes, foil or not Yes, foil or not Yes, foil or not
Legends Retold (20) Foil box topper per display Foil box topper per display Foil box topper per display, and one Uncommon in every pack, foil-etched or not; Rares and Mythic Rares possible
Lost Legends No No About 3% of packs

Extended-art Rares and Mythic Rares come in Collector Boosters, and some in the Commander decks’ sample packs.

The stained-glass basic lands also come non-foil in every DMU Jumpstart Booster. Our Magic foil types guide explains textured foil and foil-etched.

What products came out for Dominaria United?

  • Draft Boosters: one legendary creature in every pack.
  • Set Boosters: one legendary creature in every pack, plus Rares and Mythic Rares and special Commander cards. Some hold a card from The List, Wizards’ run of reprints from Magic’s past.
  • Collector Boosters: foil-etched legendary creatures and extended-art cards, and the only home of textured foil and Lost Legends in this set.
  • Jumpstart Boosters: in 10 versions.
  • Bundle: a foil promo card and an accessory, with more besides.
  • Prerelease Packs.
  • Commander Decks: each with a two-card Collector Booster Sample Pack. One of its two cards is always a foil stained-glass Uncommon. The DMC set has 221 entries.

The set came out before Wizards combined Draft and Set Boosters into the Play Booster. Our Wilds of Eldraine guide explains that change and sets Wizards’ product-guide figures for each pack type side by side, and our Collector Boosters guide covers that pack in depth.

What should you check before you buy?

  • DMU or DMC. Legends Retold and the Commander cards carry DMC, so a listing should give the code and the collector number.
  • Which Ajani or Sheoldred. One name can cover four or five printings, so match the number. Phyrexia: All Will Be One also has a step-and-compleat foil Sheoldred, the Apocalypse with the DMU symbol and number 436, two past the last DMU number.
  • The pack type. Draft, Set and Collector Booster boxes hold different packs, so read the label.
  • A Lost Legends card is a 1994 card. Our guide to spotting fake Magic cards covers the checks.
  • Factory wrap. A booster box is sealed product; our guide to storing sealed product explains how to keep it that way.

How do you check Dominaria United card prices?

Rip.fan’s card price lookup and price pages do not include Magic; they list English Pokémon cards only. For a DMU card, start from the code and the collector number, because one name can cover up to five printings. Then look only at sold listings for that exact printing and finish, and note the date of each sale. Our guides to checking Magic card prices and finding what a card sold for set out the method.

The seller fee calculator shows what a sale leaves you after fees on TCGplayer or Whatnot. The Phyrexian story carries on in two 2023 sets, and Rip.fan covers both: Phyrexia: All Will Be One and March of the Machine. The trading card hub has more on Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece and Lorcana.

Frequently asked questions
