Boxed.gg review: card rates, a slab market and custom boxes

Boxed.gg covers a wide range of cards, sports included, showed card rates on every box we opened, and seemed trustworthy, with a big crowd of members.

The score averages these criteria by their weights. How we rate sites

What we found in our test

  • RangeBoxes of Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and Riftbound cards and of sports cards such as hockey, baseball and soccer. Its marketplace also lists Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.
  • Your own boxMembers can build boxes of their own, each with a count of how often it has been opened.
  • Listed cardsEach box page we saw said some of its listed items had been swapped for a voucher because stock ran low.

How we tested

We opened a hockey box and a baseball box on our own Boxed.gg account, paying from the account balance, and then spent a while in its marketplace and among the boxes other collectors have built. After the hockey box opened, its card lay face down on the screen until we clicked to turn it over.

This review is a human and AI collaboration: our own use of the site supplied the screenshots and notes, and AI wrote the review from them and from Boxed.gg’s own public pages.

What stood out

Boxed.gg seemed trustworthy, and a lot of people clearly use it. The range is wide. Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and Riftbound boxes lead, and hockey, baseball and soccer boxes cover sports. Boxed.gg also lists Disney Lorcana cards.

We liked that both box pages laid out their card rates before we pressed open, with each value range and how often it comes up. Beyond the boxes sit a marketplace of graded cards and a way to build boxes of your own.

How it works

Each box gives you one card, in steps much like those in our guide to how online pack opening works.

  1. Pick a box. Tabs along the main page split the boxes into Pokémon, Magic, One Piece and Riftbound, with sports cards on a tab of their own.
  2. Read the box page. The price is on the open button, with the card rates beside it and every item the box holds listed below.
  3. Open it. You choose one pack from a row, and the box’s card is revealed.
  4. Decide. Sell the card back from the result screen, or withdraw it to have it shipped.

Our hockey box gave a 2020 Upper Deck base card, which the result screen showed with its listed value, a Sell button and an Open Again button.

Opening a hockey box on the website

Boxed.gg says it buys its cards from local hobby stores and collectors and keeps them in a secure facility in the US until they ship, and in June 2025 it said more than 50,000 cards were in storage there. The site has far more on it than boxes, more than any other site we list, and those extra features were not our style, so give yourself a while to find your way around.

Card rates and what a box holds

A box’s item list is not fixed. Both of ours warned that a few items had already been replaced with vouchers as stock ran short, so check the list on the day you open. Each box has its own price, and Boxed.gg says rarity alone sets it, so a box gets cheaper as what it holds gets less rare.

Boxes built by other collectors have a page of their own, sorted by the same kind of tabs. Each shows its price, who made it and how often it has been opened. From there, Create Box starts one of your own, and Your Boxes lists the ones you have made.

Trade-in offers and selling

Selling back pays the value the site shows for the card, into your account balance. Before you take it, set that figure beside recent sales of the same card, as our guide to judging an instant trade-in offer shows.

The marketplace works as an exchange. You get a graded card by handing over cards already in your account, and as many as thirty cards you don’t want can go toward the one you are after. The slabs we saw came from PSA, CGC and Beckett, and the filters cover English and Japanese cards and a long list of sports, from baseball and basketball to golf and soccer. Our guide to buying graded cards online covers what to check on a slab before you take it.

Fees and shipping

Withdraw a limited-time card soon. The site does not keep it aside, and if stock runs out before you ask for it, a voucher comes in its place. The baseball box page also warned that its marketplace items cost extra to ship outside the US.

Shipping is charged by destination and taken from your account balance, and in October 2026 Boxed.gg listed 22 destinations. Up to 15 cards withdrawn within one 24-hour period ship for a single charge, so it makes sense to gather cards up and withdraw them together. There is no faster shipping option, and outside the US, customs can slow a parcel or add charges for whoever receives it.

Boxed.gg says every card it sells is Near Mint or better, and our guide to card condition grades explains what that covers. Each card ships in a double sleeve inside a top loader, in a bubble mailer. In June 2025 it shipped to the US, Canada and the UK, and delivery took two to four weeks.

Support and track record

Boxed.gg is based in Seattle. In February 2025 it said hundreds of thousands of registered users had opened more than 30 million boxes on the site. On January 31 that year, the streamer shroud opened rare and vintage Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards supplied by Boxed.gg in a charity stream, and more than 100 of those cards, graded by PSA, then went up for auction with the proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Who it suits

Boxed.gg suits a collector who moves between Pokémon, Magic and One Piece, or between cards and sports, and enjoys a site with plenty to explore, from a marketplace of graded cards to boxes you build yourself.
