Panini Prizm explained: Silver Prizms, colors and rookies
How Panini Prizm basketball and football work: the Silver Prizm, numbered color Prizms and their print runs, box formats, rookie cards and inserts.

Panini Prizm is Panini’s chromium card brand, and “Prizm” is also its name for the shiny parallels inside it. The Silver Prizm is the plain, unnumbered version, and above it sit dozens of colored Prizms, most stamped with a print run. The two 2025 editions, basketball and football, are laid out differently.
What is Panini Prizm?
It is Panini’s answer to the chromium card.
The finish works like Topps’ Refractor. It has a different name because Refractor is a Topps trademark, so other makers use their own, and Panini’s is Prizm. Our guide to Topps Chrome covers the Topps side.
What stands out about the 2025 sets?
2025-26 basketball has no NBA license for the first time, so team and league logos are airbrushed out of the photos, while the 2025 football set names each player’s NFL team. The basketball set also adds college players.
How do basketball and football Prizm compare?
The per-box figures are expected counts.

What is a Silver Prizm?
It is the plain Prizm parallel, with no serial number. It sits with the unnumbered parallels, so nothing on the card or the checklist tells you how many exist. It also turns up across formats. A 2025-26 basketball Mega box holds two Silver Prizms, a 2025 football fat pack box one base or rookie Silver, and a football No Huddle box four No Huddle Silver Prizms.
The Silver shows up in the insert sets too. On the 2025 football list, insert sets such as Emergent and Prizm Break carry a Silver Prizms parallel among their colors. Because the base card and the Silver share a card number, name the parallel in any listing.
How do numbered Prizms work?
A numbered Prizm carries a stamp such as 12/49: copy 12 of a run of 49. Our guide to serial-numbered cards explains the stamp. What catches buyers out is that a color name does not fix the run. Rip.fan set the two base parallel lists side by side, and these names appear in both:

So a Green Scope Prizm is one of 8 in basketball and one of 75 in football. Check the stamp against the checklist for that exact sport and year. Each list ends in several one of ones: Black, Black Shimmer and Nebula in basketball, and Black Finite, Black Shimmer, Black Stars and Choice Nebula in football. Which boxes have their own Prizms?
Panini gives each format a color of its own:

The 2025 football set also has a No Huddle format with 1 No Huddle autograph and 6 numbered No Huddle Prizms, a fat pack with 1 Green Flash, and a counter display with 3 Black and White Checker.

Where are the rookie cards?
In football they are easy to find: the last 100 base cards, 301 to 400, all carry the RC mark, and every pack holds two. The autographed rookies come in Rookie Autographs (86 cards) and Rookie Patch Autographs (41 cards, each numbered to 99 or less). Basketball is different this year. The 2024-25 edition had 300 base cards, and 50 of them, cards 221 to 270, were marked RC. The 2025-26 set marks no rookies, though the base set includes rookies and prospects. Check the season a player reached the NBA before you call a card from this set his rookie card. What inserts are in Prizm?
Insert sets sit beside the base set, each with its own Prizm colors. In 2025-26 basketball, returning sets include Brilliance, Fireworks, Kaleidoscopic and Prizm Break, and there is a new Collegiate Stars set. Color Blast, Manga and Prizmania are its super short prints. In 2025 football the inserts include Emergent and Prizmatic, and the super short prints include Color Blast, Color Blast Duos and Manga.
How to check a Prizm card before you buy
- Note the sport, the year and the card number. In 2025 football, 301 to 400 are rookies.
- Find the parallel by name on that year’s checklist, since runs differ by sport and year.
- Match the stamp to the run. A Gold Prizm should read out of 10 in both sports.
- Check whether the color is a format exclusive, such as Red Ice from a basketball Mega box.

What is Prizm Black?
A separate Prizm basketball release. In September 2025, Panini listed the 2024-25 Prizm Black hobby box at 12 packs of 12 cards, with 5 autographs, 22 base Prizms and 10 inserts or insert Prizms as typical contents.
