Insert

An insert is a card in a product that is neither a base card nor a parallel, with a theme, a name and a look of its own. Inserts form a separate set inside the product.

Also called Insert card.

In more detail

A box holds base cards, parallels of them, and inserts. An insert is part of a subset, a set within the set. It looks different from the base cards and usually has a name and a theme of its own, such as a milestone or a design unrelated to the base set.

Inserts are a separate set within the product. That is why a rookie logo on an insert does not usually make it a rookie card, since most collectors count only cards from the base set as rookies.

When you buy or list one, name the insert set as well as the player and the year. Two cards of one player from one product can be a base card and an insert, and they sell separately.
