Checklist

A checklist is the maker's list of every card in a product, by set name and card number, often with the player, the team and the rate at which each card is placed in each format.

In more detail

Makers publish checklists so collectors know what a product holds. A 2009 beginner's glossary on Upper Deck's site calls a checklist the complete list of a set's cards from its maker, and notes that collectors use the ones found in packs or online to complete sets. Some products include checklist cards: Upper Deck's 2025-26 Series 1 hockey base set has three.

A detailed checklist carries more than names. Upper Deck's 2026-27 Series 1 checklist has columns for the set name, card number, player and team, flags for rookies, autographs and serial numbering, and a stated rate for each card by format, such as 1:1 in hangers for its Young Guns rookies.

Use the checklist before you buy. It shows how big the base set is, which inserts and parallels exist, how many copies a numbered card has and which formats hold a card, which matters when a card is placed only in hobby boxes or only at retail.
