Donruss is a long-running Panini flagship brand, and each sport builds it differently. In the three editions covered here, 2025 Donruss football has a 400-card base set and keeps Donruss Optic as a separate product, while 2025-26 Donruss basketball and 2026 Donruss baseball each pair a 200-card base set with 24 Optic cards listed per hobby box. The parallels carry different names in each sport: Press Proofs in football, colors such as Cubic, Explosion and Lava in basketball, and Laser, Ice and Artist Proof in baseball. What carries across all three is a group of insert families, from Kings and Marvels to Downtown.

Where did Donruss come from?

Candy and gum. Donruss started out making candy and gum, and its first baseball card set was ready for the 1981 season. Its 1982 set added Diamond Kings, the first 26 cards of a 660-card set, painted by the artist Dick Perez. Diamond Kings is still part of the brand, as an insert in 2026 Donruss baseball.

Panini bought the Donruss company in March 2009 and revived Donruss baseball in 2011. The Rated Rookie label dates to 1984, and our guide to Donruss Rated Rookies covers it.

How do the three editions compare?

2025 football 2025-26 basketball 2026 baseball
Released September 17, 2025 The sites give different dates May 27, 2026
Base set 400: veterans and legends at 1 to 300, Rated Rookies at 301 to 400 200 200: base cards at 1 to 100, Rated Prospects at 101 to 200
Optic cards A separate product 24 per hobby box 24 per hobby box
Hobby box 18 packs of 10 cards 12 packs of 8 cards 12 packs of 16 cards
Boxes per case 18 16 12
Listed per hobby box 42 inserts, 18 Rated Rookies, 12 parallels, and 1 autograph plus 1 relic 24 Optic cards, 12 base parallels, 8 inserts, and 3 autographs 24 Optic cards, 12 inserts, and 3 autographs or relics
Cards per hobby box 180 96 192

The last row is Rip.fan’s arithmetic. The basketball hobby box shrank from 300 cards the season before to 96, while its autographs rose from one to three.

The basketball base set leans on prospects and past stars: it mixes current and former league players with top prospects, with fewer current stars and more retired stars and prospects. High school and college names appear beside NBA teams in the team column. Donruss debuts a new Panini Premier logo that features the first official Panini card of a top prospect.

How do the parallel names differ by sport?

Each sport has its own family. Football uses Press Proofs, which our Rated Rookies guide lists with their runs. Basketball and baseball use other names, and the same color can carry a different run. These are the base set parallels:

2025 football 2025-26 basketball 2026 baseball
Family names Press Proof, plus Canvas, No Name and others Cubic, Explosion, Lava and others Laser, Ice, Artist Proof and others
Unnumbered colors 8 4 10
Numbered colors 8 24 20
Largest run Season Stat Line, up to 500 Cosmos, 275 Orange Laser, 299
Gold Press Proof Gold, 50 Gold, 10 Gold, 10
One of ones Press Proof Black Die-Cut Black Black and Artist Proof Black

Die-cuts are Silver 99, Gold 25 and Black 1 of 1 in 2025 football and Silver 75 and Gold 25 in 2026 baseball, and the 2025-26 basketball colors tied to FOTL boxes are FOTL Green 6 and FOTL Black Green 3.

The baseball count does not include the printing plates. The Silver Die Cut is numbered to 75. The rule that follows, for base set cards: a Gold stamped out of 50 is a football Press Proof, while out of 10 it is basketball or baseball. Inserts carry their own Gold runs: Travis Hunter’s football Crunch Time, Downtown and Gridiron Marvels Golds are numbered to 10. Our guide to serial-numbered cards explains how to read a stamp.

FOTL stands for 1st Off the Line, a box format. Each basketball FOTL box holds two extra FOTL autographs, numbered to 6 or 3, and each baseball FOTL box holds one Glitter autograph numbered to 5 or fewer and three Glitter parallels numbered to 6 or fewer, which are not on the base set list.

What do the football retail boxes hold?

Football has the most formats:

2025 football format Box Listed per box
Value pack A 30-card pack 3 Rated Rookies, 1 insert, and 4 exclusive Blue parallels
Holiday tin 3 packs of 5 cards 3 exclusive Press Proof Purple parallels
Blaster 6 packs of 15 cards 11 Rated Rookies, 3 more inserts, 1 parallel, and 1 relic or Revolution insert
Retail 24 packs of 8 cards 4 Red parallels, 24 inserts, 24 Rated Rookies

Football also has a Mega box of 6 packs of 10 cards. Baseball has a Mega box of 6 packs of 20 cards with 2 autographs or relics, and a blaster of 6 packs of 15 cards with 1. Basketball has no retail boxes listed. Our guide to hobby and retail boxes explains how hobby and retail formats differ.

Which inserts run across all three sports?

Donruss reuses its insert ideas from sport to sport, often with a sport word in the name. The families, by sport:

Family 2025 football 2025-26 basketball 2026 baseball
Kings Gridiron Kings, and Jersey Kings relics Hardwood Kings autographs, and Jersey Kings relics Diamond Kings, and Jersey Kings relics
Marvels Gridiron Marvels Net Marvels Diamond Marvels
Elite Series The Elite Series Elite Series Elite Series
Downtown Downtown, plus a horizontal version Downtown Downtown Duos

Unleashed is in all three sports, Night Moves is in basketball and baseball, and Crunch Time is in football and baseball.

Downtown is a short-printed set that also runs through Donruss Optic. In basketball, Downtown came over from Optic, and there is a Gold version numbered to 10 and a Gold Vinyl one of one. In baseball, Downtown Duos is new, with a Gold version numbered to 10. Our guide to Donruss Optic covers Downtown in that product, and the short print entry explains the term.

How to check a Donruss card before you buy

  1. Name the sport and the edition year. In basketball and baseball, remember that the Optic cards come from the same Donruss box.
  2. Read the card number. A 2025 football Rated Rookie sits at 301 to 400, and a 2026 baseball Rated Prospect at 101 to 200.
  3. Match the color and any stamp to that sport’s list, using the table above. Never assume a run from another sport.
  4. For a football Press Proof, check the edges as well as the stamp: a Silver is numbered to 199, or to 99 as a die-cut, and a Gold to 50, or to 25 as a die-cut.
  5. Measure the borders with our centering checker, which shows the CGC and SGC grades a centering split allows.
  6. Price the exact card, color and year from recent sales, as our guide to finding what a card sold for explains.

Price Donruss cards from recent sold listings. Our guides to Panini Prizm and Panini Select cover two more Panini sets, our guide to reading a sports card checklist explains the codes, and the sports cards hub lists the rest.
