Hobby box

A hobby box is a sealed box sold through hobby shops. It usually offers better ratios of special cards than a retail box of the same product, and it can hold cards that the retail box does not.

In more detail

Makers sell many sports products through two channels. The hobby box is sold at specialized hobby shops, and the retail box is sold at larger stores such as Walmart and Target. Most products come in both forms, though some are made for only one of them.

Upper Deck's hobby boxes traditionally carry better ratios of special inserts, and some inserts never reach retail. Boxes often state how many autograph or jersey cards they hold, so read the maker's description of the product for what a box is built to hold.

A hobby box is sealed product, so check the wrap. Upper Deck advises buying sealed boxes from a trusted source and looking for signs of tampering, such as glue or tape on the packaging. Many boxes are also opened in a break, where buyers pay for a share.
