In more detail

Upper Deck's beginner's glossary, published in 2009, describes a case as a set number of boxes packaged together in a sealed container, which can hold anywhere from 1 to 18 boxes on average. The count depends on the product and on the format, so cases of different formats of one release can hold different numbers of boxes.

Checklist sites print the count with each release. Breakninja's listing for 2025 Donruss Football gives the hobby format 18 boxes per case, and its listing for 2025 Donruss Optic Football gives hobby 12 boxes per case, with blasters and mega boxes at 20 boxes per case.

A case break is a box break built on a whole case. A 2011 glossary on the hobby news site Cardboard Connection describes a group of collectors each paying for a spot, often a team, and receiving that spot's cards from the case. Before you buy a spot, ask how many boxes the case holds and which format it is.
