Panini Spectra explained: parallels, patches and boxes
How Panini Spectra works in football and basketball: how the cards are numbered, the Rookie Patch Autographs, color runs that change by sport, and the boxes.

Panini Spectra is a high-end set built on autographs and memorabilia cards packed into a small box. A 2023 Spectra football hobby box holds just 16 cards, and half of them are listed as autographs or relics: 4 of each. Spectra’s colors share names across sports, but often not their print runs. Gold is a one of one on 2024 football base cards and numbered to 10 on 2023-24 basketball base cards, and inside one football set a color’s run changes again on the Rookie Patch Autographs.
What kind of product is Spectra?
It is a high-end release made with Panini’s Optichrome technology, with the stress on autographs and relics.

How is the football set numbered?
In three blocks. In 2024 they run like this:

Base and rookie cards together make a 200-card base set, and the patch autographs carry the numbering on to 242. So a 2024 football Spectra card numbered 230 is a patch autograph, not a base card.
Seven rookies have two unsigned cards. They sit near the top of the base set and again in the rookie block: Jayden Daniels is card 2 and card 115, Drake Maye 3 and 113, Marvin Harrison Jr. 4 and 112, Malik Nabers 5 and 118, Bo Nix 6 and 114, Xavier Worthy 7 and 117, and Brock Bowers 8 and 116. The basketball set splits differently. In 2023-24 there are 125 base cards at 1 to 125, 50 rookies at 126 to 175, and a 25-card debut subset at 176 to 200. Victor Wembanyama has a rookie card at 137 and a debut card at 195.
How do the colors differ by sport?
The names repeat, but the runs do not. These main base set parallels appear in both sports:

The 2024 football base cards also come in Silver (not numbered), Hyper (75), Neon Blue Die-Cut (50), Neon Green Die-Cut (30), Spectris (30), Neon Pink Die-Cut (20), Neon Orange Die-Cut (15), Wave (11) and Neon Splatter (8).
2023 football has the same ladder as 2024, color for color. Basketball adds the unnumbered Menagerie and a family of International colors, from unnumbered versions down to an International Black one of one.
The rule that follows: name the sport before you trust a run. On base and rookie cards, a Celestial numbered to 125 is basketball, and to 99 football, and a Gold one of one is football, while a basketball Gold is numbered to 10. Do the colors keep their runs on the patch autographs?
No, not even inside one football set. The 2024 Rookie Patch Autographs start at a base version numbered to 99, and several colors shift from their base set runs.

On base and rookie cards, the four Neon colors are die-cuts. Two colors run larger on the patch autographs: Neon Green and Neon Pink. The patch autographs also come in Supernova, Neon Purple and Neon Black Light, numbered to 70, 30 and 10. Beside Gold, they carry three Gold Laundry Tag one of ones. Of the 42 players, 10 have no version numbered to 99, so their cards start lower: J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr. at 60, for example. What else does Spectra sign?
More than the patch autographs. In 2024 football, the signed sets include Aspiring Patch Autographs and Radiant Rookie Patch Signatures, 21 cards each with a version numbered to 99, plus Rookie Autographs and Dual Patch Autographs. The football relic sets are numbered to 99, Building Blocks and Rising Rookie Materials among them.

How to check a Spectra card before you buy
- Name the sport and the year first. The runs do not carry over.
- Read the card number. In 2024 football, 1 to 110 is base, 111 to 200 is a rookie and 201 to 242 is a Rookie Patch Autograph.
- Match the color and stamp to that sport and that card type, using the tables above.
- For a patch autograph, check the stamp against that player’s ladder, since some start below 99.

Yes. 2024 Spectra football signs veterans and retired stars in Champion Signatures, Colorgraphs, Icons and Illustrious Legends, each numbered to 149 or fewer.
What are the International parallels in Spectra basketball?
A basketball-only family. On 2023-24 base cards it starts with unnumbered International, Black and White and Red versions, then runs through Green, Red and Yellow, Blue and Orange and Gold to a Black one of one.
