NBA Hoops is a basketball set with a large base set and a long run of parallels, and 2024-25 is Panini’s edition. It has 300 base cards, 50 of them rookies, and each base card comes in 57 parallel versions. A hobby box lists one autograph. For 2025-26 the name moved: Hoops now comes from Topps.
How is the 2024-25 base set numbered?
In three blocks. Trae Young’s base card is 85, his Hoops Tribute card is 287, and Zaccharie Risacher’s rookie card is 231.
| Block | Card numbers | Cards | What it holds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 1 to 230 | 230 | NBA players, listed with their teams |
| Rookies | 231 to 280 | 50 | The 2024 draft class, flagged RC |
| Hoops Tribute | 281 to 300 | 20 | A mix of players, five of them rookies |
Five of the 20 Hoops Tribute players also have a card in the Rookies block, so a rookie can have two base cards. Reed Sheppard is one of them. The Tribute block also includes Larry Bird and Julius Erving. Read the number before you buy.
The set carries the season’s first licensed NBA rookie cards, with the rookies shown in NBA uniforms. It came out on January 31, 2025. Our guide to what counts as a rookie card explains the RC flag.
How many parallels does a Hoops card have?
Fifty-seven. Of them, 14 carry no serial number and 43 are numbered, three of them one of one, and 26 of the 57 carry the Premium Prizms name.
That many colors means many share a print run. Counted by print run:
| Print run | How many parallels share it | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 199 | 4 | Silver, Premium Box Set, Orange Premium Prizms |
| 149 | 2 | White Explosion, Lime Green Premium Prizms |
| 99 | 8 | Green, Blue Scope, Green Explosion |
| 88 | 2 | Blue Winter Holo, Winter Blizzard Premium Prizms |
| 75 | 2 | Red, Dragon Year |
| 49 | 4 | Red Scope, Blue Premium Prizms |
| 25 | 7 | Artist Proof, Orange Explosion, Mojo Premium Prizms |
| 10 | 2 | Artist Proof Gold, Gold Premium Prizms |
| 1 | 3 | Artist Proof Black, Gold Vinyl and Nebula Premium Prizms |
Orange has two different print runs, so it is not in the table. The runs that stand alone are 299 (Storm), 249 (Purple Premium Prizms), 175 (Teal), 110 (Purple Explosion), 59 (Blue Explosion), 15 (Red Explosion), 8 (Green Scope) and 5 (Yellow Checkerboard). So a card stamped 12/25 could be any of seven parallels. Name the color when you buy or sell. Our guide to sports card parallels explains how numbered colors work.
Which colors come from one format?
Three Scope colors are Hobby Blaster exclusives: Green Scope, numbered to 8, Red Scope to 49 and Blue Scope to 99. Hobby-exclusive colors include Red Backs, Texture, Silver, Green, Artist Proof, Artist Proof Gold and Artist Proof Black. Orange and Dragon Year are new colors this year.
What is in a 2024-25 Hoops box?
| Format | Packs and cards | Per box, on average |
|---|---|---|
| Hobby | 24 packs of 8 cards | 1 autograph, 24 inserts or parallels |
| Hobby Blaster | 6 packs of 15 cards | 11 inserts or parallels |
By Rip.fan’s arithmetic, a hobby box holds 192 cards, and the listed items account for 25 of them. Inserts and parallels together come once per pack, which fits 24 a box. Averages are taken across many boxes, so any one box can differ. Our guide to hobby and retail boxes explains why formats carry different cards.
What autographs and memorabilia cards are there?
| Set | Cards | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Great SIGnificance | 99 | Gold version numbered to 10 |
| Hot Signatures | 47 | Red versions numbered to 25 or fewer; Platinum one of one |
| Hot Signatures Rookies | 50 | Green; Red numbered to 25; Platinum one of one |
| Rookie Ink | 50 | Green; Red numbered to 25; Platinum one of one |
| Hoops Ink | 46 | Red versions numbered to 25 or fewer; Platinum one of one |
| Hoops Art Signatures | 5 vertical, 5 horizontal | On-card; the horizontal cards pair Anthony Edwards with a rookie |
| Hoops Hopeful Memorabilia | 35 | Winter; Prime numbered to 25; Super Prime one of one |
| Rise ’N Shine Memorabilia | 35 single, 15 dual | Same three versions |
| Rookie Remembrance | 15 | Same three versions |
Rookie Sweaters has 32 cards.
There are 26 insert sets. Dreamcatchers, Funkadelic and Nobility are new hobby-only sets, and Presentations has a Gold version, numbered to 10, found only in hobby boxes. Our guide to autographs, patches and short prints covers signed cards in general.
What was the Premium Box Set?
A separate boxed version of the base set. Panini sold it through its own website on February 17, 2025. Each box held the full 300-card base set on premium foil stock, every card numbered to 199, plus one Hoops Tribute autograph numbered to 10, for 301 cards. There are 20 of those autographs.
So a Hoops card numbered to 199 can be a Silver, an Orange Premium Prizms, a Red Pulsar Premium Prizms or a Premium Box Set card. Name the version when you buy or sell.
Who makes Hoops now?
Topps. Panini made Hoops for many years, and Topps took over the brand, which first appeared in the 1989-90 season.
| 2024-25 (Panini) | 2025-26 (Topps) | |
|---|---|---|
| Release date | January 31, 2025 | May 14, 2026 |
| Base set | 300 cards | 300 cards |
| Hobby box | 24 packs of 8 cards | 20 packs of 8 cards |
| Autographs per hobby box | 1 | 1 |
The 2025-26 Topps jumbo box holds 10 packs of 20 cards and 2 autographs.
Every 2025-26 base card has a holo finish, unlike Panini’s. A listing that says only “Hoops” and a player name can mean either maker, so check the year. Panini’s own basketball sets continue, and our guide to Panini Origins covers one of them.
How to check a Hoops card before you buy
- Read the year and maker. The 2024-25 set is Panini’s; the 2025-26 set is Topps’s.
- Read the number and place it: base, rookie (231 to 280) or Hoops Tribute (281 to 300).
- Name the color, then match the serial number to that color’s run with the tables above.
- For a card numbered to 199, check whether it is a Premium Box Set card or a pack parallel.
- Measure the borders with our centering checker, which shows the CGC and SGC grades a centering split allows.
- Price the exact card and color from recent sales, as our guide to finding what a card sold for explains.
Rip.fan’s card price lookup covers English Pokémon cards only, so sold listings are where to price Hoops. If you sell on Whatnot, the seller fee calculator shows what you keep after its fees. Our guide to reading a sports card checklist covers the marks checklists use, our guides to Panini Prizm and Panini Select cover two other Panini basketball sets, and the sports cards hub lists the rest.
