Reign of Jafar is Disney Lorcana’s eighth set. Ravensburger announced on May 6, 2025 that its prerelease events would be on May 30 and its wide release on June 6. It brought back dual-ink cards, and it keeps the structure of the set before, Archazia’s Island: 60 dual-ink cards out of 204, the same number in each ink block and the same rarity mix for each pair of inks. The dual-ink cards sit on different numbers, and the other differences lie elsewhere. Its 18 Enchanted printings lean toward Rares, half of them are dual-ink, and four characters are classed as Illusions, which Ravensburger presents as Jafar’s tricks.

When did Reign of Jafar come out?

Ravensburger announced two dates on May 6, 2025: prerelease events in local stores and Disney stores starting May 30, and packs available everywhere on June 6. Here are the dates and the set’s place in the series:

Set Date
Archazia’s Island (Set 7) 2025-03-07
Reign of Jafar (Set 8) 2025-05-30
Fabled (Set 9) 2025-08-29

The same press release scheduled Fabled for release everywhere on September 5, 2025. Other sets’ prerelease and wide-release dates are in Lorcana set release dates.

What is the set about?

Jafar’s takeover of the island from Set 7. In Ravensburger’s story, Jafar sent a hypnotized Basil glimmer after the missing half of the broken Hexwell Crown, reforged the crown, and turned the island haven into a harsh landscape and its citadel into a fortress around his throne room. Its one-line pitch: a Jafar glimmer has corrupted the island into his stronghold, and the set has “200+ cards to collect”.

The four featured cards are Minnie Mouse - Daring Defender, Mulan - Charging Ahead, Mushu - Fast Talking Dragon and Pinocchio - Strings Attached. Of the 149 character names in the set, 51 are absent from Sets 1 to 7. Bambi, Thumper, Faline, Friend Owl, Geppetto, Figaro, The Sultan and Prince Achmed are among them, and the other 98 come back.

Two cards share a full name with an earlier card: Dalmatian Puppy - Tail Wagger (8-38), whose name Into the Inklands also used at 3-4a, and a Captain Hook Common at 8-186 whose name matches card 1-174 from The First Chapter. They are separate cards, so the set number tells them apart.

How does Reign of Jafar compare with Archazia’s Island?

Here are the counts:

Archazia’s Island (Set 7) Reign of Jafar (Set 8)
Standard cards 204 204
Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary 72, 54, 48, 18, 12 72, 54, 48, 18, 12
Dual-ink cards 60 60
Characters, actions, items 173, 17, 14 167, 27, 10
Songs among the actions 5 9
Character names new to Lorcana 50 51
Enchanted printings 18 18
Enchanted, by standard rarity 6 Legendary, 6 Super Rare, 6 Rare 4 Legendary, 4 Super Rare, 10 Rare
Dual-ink Enchanted printings 6 9

Extra printings 7-223 and 7-224, second Super Rares 8-223 and 8-224, second Legendaries
Printings in all 224 224

The skeleton is the same; what changed is the mix of card types, which numbers hold the dual-ink cards and which cards got the Enchanted treatment.

How are the dual-ink cards laid out?

With the same counts as in Set 7, though not on the same numbers. Ravensburger headlined the return of dual-ink cards; each carries two of Lorcana’s six inks. The Set 8 counts:

  • 60 of 204 cards, 4 for each of the 15 possible pairs of inks.
  • An identical mix for each pair: two Uncommons, one Rare and one Super Rare.
  • Types: 49 characters, 9 actions and 2 items.
  • No dual-ink Common or Legendary. Fifteen of the 18 Super Rares are dual-ink, one per pair; the 12 Legendaries are all single-ink, split evenly at two per ink.
  • 144 single-ink cards, 24 in each ink.

After this set, dual-ink cards paused. Fabled, Whispers in the Well, Winterspell and Wilds Unknown have none, and Attack of the Vine (Set 13) has 16.

How is Reign of Jafar numbered?

By ink, from Amber to Steel, with each block smaller than the last. Every dual-ink card sits under its earlier ink in that order (Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel), which gives these blocks:

Ink block Card numbers Size One ink Two inks
Amber 8-1 to 8-44 44 24 20
Amethyst 8-45 to 8-84 40 24 16
Emerald 8-85 to 8-120 36 24 12
Ruby 8-121 to 8-152 32 24 8
Sapphire 8-153 to 8-180 28 24 4
Steel 8-181 to 8-204 24 24 None

Set 7’s blocks start and end at the same numbers. Within a block, characters lead, actions follow and items close it out. So a number fixes a card’s earlier ink only: an Amber-block card may be Steel as well. The glossary defines a card number.

What are the illusions?

Jafar’s tricks, in Ravensburger’s telling: specters that Jafar made to trick anyone storming his fortress, or mirages of light and sand. Four characters carry the classification Illusion:

Number Card Rarity Inks
8-45 Palace Guard - Spectral Sentry Common Amethyst
8-50 Abu - Illusory Pachyderm Uncommon Amethyst and Steel
8-73 The Sultan - Royal Apparition Rare Amethyst and Steel
8-183 A Magic Carpet character Common Steel

None of the four has an Enchanted printing, and all sit in Amethyst, Steel or both.

Which cards got Enchanted versions?

Eighteen, numbered 8-205 to 8-222. One action card appears below by number only:

Number Enchanted card Its standard card Standard rarity Ink or inks
8-205 Lady - Decisive Dog 8-33 Rare Amber, Emerald
8-206 Wreck-It Ralph - Big Lug 8-24 Super Rare Amber, Ruby
8-207 Perdita - Determined Mother 8-27 Super Rare Amber, Sapphire
8-208 It Means No Worries 8-42 Rare Amber
8-209 Bambi - Little Prince 8-63 Legendary Amethyst

8-211 Mother Gothel - Knows What’s Best 8-70 Rare Amethyst, Ruby
8-212 Fantastical and Magical 8-79 Rare Amethyst
8-213 Into the Unknown 8-81 Super Rare Amethyst, Sapphire
8-214 Rapunzel - High Climber 8-101 Legendary Emerald
8-215 Captain Hook - The Pirate King 8-109 Rare Emerald, Steel
8-216 The action card 8-116 8-116 Rare Emerald
8-217 Lilo - Causing an Uproar 8-137 Legendary Ruby
8-218 Mushu - Your Worst Nightmare 8-142 Rare Ruby, Steel
8-219 The Sword of Shan-Yu 8-152 Rare Ruby
8-220 Stitch - Experiment 626 8-166 Legendary Sapphire
8-221 Jasmine - Steady Strategist 8-171 Super Rare Sapphire, Steel
8-222 Desperate Plan 8-201 Rare Steel

The Enchanted numbers move through the ink blocks in order, four in Amber and one in Steel, yet inside a block they skip around: 8-205 belongs to card 8-33 and 8-206 to card 8-24. So match an Enchanted card to its standard card by name, not by position. For the rarity itself, see the Enchanted glossary entry; for how it works in every set, see Lorcana Enchanted cards and box contents.

What are 8-223 and 8-224?

Each is a second Legendary printing. 8-223 repeats Goofy - Groundbreaking Chef (8-4, Amber), and 8-224 repeats Pinocchio - Strings Attached (8-61, Amethyst), one of the four featured cards. So either card can turn up under two Legendary numbers, and a good listing names which.

Every booster pack also holds a card that tells part of a story. For how a pack’s 12 cards split by rarity, our guide to Lorcana Enchanted cards and box contents gives a distributor’s breakdown for a later set. Like any booster box, a sealed box should arrive in unbroken factory wrap, as sealed product should.

What should a buyer look for on a Set 8 card?

  • The set number. Each card is written with its set number first, as in 8-4. Jafar has versions in eight of the first nine sets and Stitch in several too, so confirm a listing names Set 8.
  • Two inks where there should be two. Match a dual-ink card’s inks to the listing.
  • Which Legendary printing. Goofy - Groundbreaking Chef and Pinocchio - Strings Attached each exist at two numbers.
  • The Enchanted range. Enchanted printings run from 8-205 to 8-222, so a listing for one should match a number in that range.
  • Earlier cards with the same name. Dalmatian Puppy - Tail Wagger and the Captain Hook Common at 8-186 each share a full name with an older card.

Where do you find Reign of Jafar card prices?

In completed sales, because Rip.fan’s card price lookup handles English Pokémon cards only. Match the printing and the finish before you compare anything: Goofy at 8-4 and Goofy at 8-223 are priced separately, and so are foil and nonfoil. Valuing a Lorcana card walks through the steps, finding what a card sold for covers sold searches, and Lorcana rarities describes each rarity.
