Topps Inception is a hobby box of one seven-card pack, known for colorful, paint-heavy designs and built around its autographs. The two newest editions, 2025 baseball and 2025-26 basketball, list one autograph or autograph relic per box. Its base parallels share color names from edition to edition, but many of the print runs change, so a Blue card numbered to 25 cannot be from the same edition as one numbered to 10. And because a box is a single pack, the per-pack card rates on the checklists are also per-box rates.
What comes in an Inception box?
One pack of seven cards in each of the four editions covered here.
| Edition | Released | Hobby box | Listed per box |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 football | April 4, 2025 | 1 pack of 7 cards | 2 autographs |
| 2024-25 basketball | September 11, 2025 | 1 pack of 7 cards | 2 autographs |
| 2025 baseball | June 19, 2026 | 1 pack of 7 cards | 1 autograph, 2 base parallels |
| 2025-26 basketball | July 23, 2026 | 1 pack of 7 cards | 1 autograph |
A case holds 8 boxes for all four. The 2024 football box adds a relic, and the baseball and 2025-26 basketball autograph is an autograph or autograph relic. For baseball, a box has four base cards and two base parallels beside the autograph, which by Rip.fan’s arithmetic accounts for all seven cards.
The 2024 football cards remove team and league logos and the 2024-25 basketball cards show no NBA team or league licensing, while 2025-26 basketball is a fully licensed NBA product. The 2024 edition was the first Inception football set since 2015, and 2024-25 the first NBA edition. A 2026 football edition has an estimated hobby release of November 6, 2026, with one 7-card pack and one autograph per box. It was not yet out on October 12, 2026.
How is the base set built?
Mostly as one run of 100 cards, with rookies mixed in among the veterans. The parallel runs by edition:
| Edition | Base cards | Marked RC |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 football | 200: 150 base cards (1 to 150) and 50 rookies (151 to 200) | 50 |
| 2024-25 basketball | 100 | 48 |
| 2025 baseball | 100, plus 25 short prints (101 to 125) | 56 in the base set, 8 among the short prints |
| 2025-26 basketball | 100 | 24 |
In 2025-26 basketball, rookie Cooper Flagg is card 22, after Jayson Tatum at 20 and before Kyrie Irving at 23, so the rookie and veteran cards share one number run. Our guide to what counts as a rookie card explains the RC mark.
How do the parallels differ by edition?
The color names repeat, but many of the runs do not.
| Color | 2024 football | 2024-25 basketball | 2025 baseball | 2025-26 basketball |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green | Not numbered | Not numbered | Not numbered | Not numbered |
| Purple | 125 | 150 | 150 | 125 |
| Red | 75 | 75 | 99 | 75 |
| Gold, Holo Gold or Gold Electricity | Gold, 25 | Holo Gold, 50 | Gold Electricity, 50 | Gold Electricity, 50 |
| Blue | 10 | 25 | 25 | 25 |
| Inception | 1 of 1 | 1 of 1 | 1 of 1 | 1 of 1 |
Yellow is numbered to 199 in 2025 baseball; Magenta to 99 in 2024 football; Pink to 99 in both basketball editions; Aqua to 75 in 2025 baseball; Orange to 50 in 2024 football and to 10 in 2025 baseball; Hot Pink to 35 in 2025 baseball; Camo to 10 in both basketball editions; and Sky to 5 in 2025 baseball, with Sky Blue at 5 in 2025-26 basketball.
The runs give quick tests among these four editions. A Blue base card numbered to 10 is 2024 football; numbered to 25, it is one of the other three. An Orange numbered to 50 is 2024 football, and one numbered to 10 is 2025 baseball. A Red numbered to 99 is baseball. The preview list for the 2026 football edition uses the 2025 baseball runs, Yellow aside, so these tests separate the four released editions only. Our guides to sports card parallels and how serial-numbered cards work cover the basics.
What do the card rates mean for one box?
A card rate says how often a card turns up, written as one card per so many packs. In Inception, one pack is one box, so a rate of 1 in 6 packs is 1 in 6 boxes. A rate is a figure for the set as a whole, so any single box can differ. These are set-level rates for 2025 baseball sets:
| Set | Cards | One card per |
|---|---|---|
| Base short prints | 25 | 2 packs |
| Rookie and Emerging Stars Autographs | 88 | 6 packs |
| Inception Autograph Patch | 56 | 15 packs |
| Inception Autograph Jumbo Patch | 35 | 33 packs |
| Inception Molecular Autographs | 23 | 46 packs |
| Dawn of Greatness Autographs | 15 | 74 packs |
| Inception Immersion Autographs | 19 | 80 packs |
| Inception Transformation Autographs | 15 | 94 packs |
| Dual Autograph Relic Book | 12 | 452 packs |
The six MLB Bat Knob Sticker Autographs are each a one of one.
How do First Day Issue boxes compare?
For 2025-26 basketball, most autograph rates come twice, once for the hobby box and once for the First Day Issue (FDI) box.
| Rookie Autographs | Hobby | FDI |
|---|---|---|
| The set as a whole | 1 in 35 packs | 1 in 22 packs |
| Red Electricity version | No hobby rate listed | 1 in 3 packs |
| Green Electricity version | No hobby rate listed | 1 in 6 packs |
The two Electricity versions have rates in FDI boxes only, and an FDI box holds an FDI autograph plus one more autograph or autograph relic.
What are the signature and milestone cards?
A few sets define the brand. Inception Signings, 39 cards in 2025 baseball, come in Silver (numbered to 125 or fewer), Gold (25 or fewer) and a Gold Inscription one of one, and the Gold version carries gold-ink signatures on dark designs. The 2024 football and 2025-26 basketball editions have a Silver Signings set instead, which carries silver-ink signatures in 2025-26 basketball.
The First Milestone sets hold a relic tied to an early moment in a player’s career. Dylan Harper’s 2025-26 card holds a piece of the net from his NBA debut, and both basketball First Milestone sets are redemptions, cards you exchange later for the finished card. Our guide to sports card redemptions explains how that works.
Inception autographs carry card numbers with letter prefixes instead of plain numbers. For the Pirates, RESA-PS is Skenes’ Rookie and Emerging Stars Autograph and IS-PS his Inception Signings card, so the prefix tells you the set.
How to check an Inception card before you buy
- Name the sport and the edition year. The edition year is not the release year: 2025 baseball came out in June 2026.
- Read the card number on the back; its letter prefix names the set.
- Match the color and the stamp to that edition’s column in the parallel table.
- For a 2025-26 basketball Rookie Autograph in Red or Green Electricity, note that those colors have FDI rates only.
- Measure the borders with our centering checker, which shows the CGC and SGC grades a centering split allows.
- Price the exact card, color and edition from recent sales, as our guide to finding what a card sold for explains.
Rip.fan’s card price lookup covers English Pokémon cards only, so sold listings are where to price Inception. The autograph card entry has the short definition. Our guides to Topps Chrome, Topps Dynasty and Topps Museum Collection cover more Topps sets, and the sports cards hub lists the rest.
