OP-05 is the One Piece booster called Awakening of the New Era. It came out in English on December 8, 2023 at USD $4.49 a pack, after Japan’s OP-05 of August 26, 2023, and it marks the game’s first anniversary with a card showing an original illustration by Eiichiro Oda. Bandai counts 126+1 card types and 27+1 parallel versions, and the set comes to 154 entries on the card list. Those three figures fit together exactly. The set also has six Special cards, one in each color, and three cards with a second alt-art.

When did OP-05 reach stores, and for how much?

Detail Japan English
On sale Saturday, August 26, 2023 Friday, December 8, 2023
One pack, list price 220 yen including tax USD $4.49
Cards in a pack 6 Not printed
Total of card types 127 126+1
Parallel or alt-art versions 27+1 27+1

Japan counts the DON!! card into a total of 127, where the English edition puts it after the plus sign; the rarity lines are the same. English OP-05 followed English OP-04 (September 22, 2023), and Japan’s followed its OP-04 of May 27, 2023. Our One Piece set release dates put OP-05 in the full sequence.

What is OP-05 about?

The highlights:

  • The anniversary card, with an original illustration by Eiichiro Oda.
  • Skypia and the Revolutionary Army, with Enel and Sabo named among their characters.
  • Luffy’s Gear 5 form, appearing in a booster for the first time.
  • Kaido, from the Wano arc.

Enel and Sabo are billed as making their debut here. That holds for Enel, who appears in none of OP-01 to OP-04. Sabo is not new: OP-04 has a Super Rare Sabo at OP04-083. What OP-05 adds is his first Leader card, OP05-001.

How do 126+1 card types become 154 entries?

Bandai’s count and its card list measure different things. Set side by side, by Rip.fan’s arithmetic:

Part of the set Bandai’s count Entries on the card list
OP-05 numbers in the six usual rarities 119 119
Special cards 6 6
1st Anniversary Special Card 1 2 entries under ST01-012
The +1 parallel 1 (in the 2 above)
Alt-art versions of OP-05 numbers 27 27
DON!! card, the +1 in the type count 1 None
Total 126+1 types, 27+1 parallels 154

So 126 types and 28 parallels make 154, the exact length of each card list. The two ST01-012 entries are Monkey.D.Luffy cards under a starter deck number, both labeled SR. By this arithmetic they account for the anniversary card and the +1 parallel; match a listing’s photo to Bandai’s images to tell them apart. ST01-012 has history: in OP-03 the same number is a Special card.

Which Leaders does OP-05 have?

Six, but only four are two-colored, after OP-04’s all two-colored lineup:

Number Leader Colors Pair on an earlier booster Leader?
OP05-001 Sabo Red and black Yes, OP-02
OP05-002 Belo Betty Red and yellow No, a new pair
OP05-022 Donquixote Rosinante Green and blue Yes, OP-02
OP05-041 Sakazuki Blue and black Yes, OP-04
OP05-060 Monkey.D.Luffy Purple Single color
OP05-098 Enel Yellow Single color

Belo Betty’s red and yellow is the 14th of the 15 possible pairs to reach a booster Leader. The 15th, red and purple, came with Uta (OP06-001) in the next set.

How many cards are in OP-05?

The English and Japanese counts agree line for line:

Rarity line Count
Special card 6
1st Anniversary Special Card 1
Secret Rare 2
Super Rare 10
Rare 26
Uncommon 30
Common 45
Leader 6
Total without the DON!! card 126
DON!! card 1

The 119 OP-05 numbers are 6 Leaders, 91 Characters, 18 Events and 4 Stages: Revolutionary Army HQ (OP05-021), Birdcage (040), Mary Geoise (097) and Upper Yard (117).

How is OP-05 numbered?

In color blocks, each led by its Leaders where it has them, in order:

Range What sits there
OP05-001 and 002 Two Leaders: Sabo (red and black) and Belo Betty (red and yellow)
OP05-003 to 021 Red cards, ending with a Stage
OP05-022 to 040 Rosinante’s green and blue Leader, then green cards, ending with a Stage
OP05-041 to 059 Sakazuki’s blue and black Leader, then blue cards
OP05-060 to 078 Luffy’s purple Leader, then purple cards
OP05-079 to 097 Black cards, with no Leader, ending with a Stage
OP05-098 to 117 Enel’s yellow Leader, then yellow cards, ending with a Stage
OP05-118 Kaido, a blue Secret Rare
OP05-119 Monkey.D.Luffy, a purple Secret Rare

Each block’s Events sit just before its Stage, or at the end where there is no Stage. Black is the one color with no Leader at the head of its block; in OP-04, yellow had none either. The glossary has an entry on the card number.

What are OP-05’s Special cards?

Six new versions of cards from five sets. The list keeps each one under the number its standard print uses, labeled SP CARD:

SP card’s number Character Color Standard print’s rarity
OP01-016 Nami Red Rare in OP-01
OP01-121 Yamato Green Secret Rare in OP-01
OP02-120 Uta Purple Secret Rare in OP-02
OP03-092 Rob Lucci Black Super Rare in OP-03
OP04-044 Kaido Blue Super Rare in OP-04
OP05-100 Enel Yellow Super Rare in OP-05

Two patterns show. The six cover all six colors, one each. And OP05-100 is the first Special card in OP-01 to OP-05 to carry its own set’s number; OP-03’s and OP-04’s all carry earlier products’ numbers. So OP05-100 appears three times in OP-05, as the Super Rare, its alt-art and the Special card.

What are the Super Parallel cards?

The set before had one kind of Super Parallel card, and OP-05 has three, of three captains. The card list does not use the term, but three numbers carry two alt-art entries each, which fits that count:

  • Trafalgar Law, OP05-069, a Super Rare
  • Eustass“Captain”Kid, OP05-074, a Super Rare
  • Monkey.D.Luffy, OP05-119, a Secret Rare

Our guide to spotting fake One Piece cards covers a fake of OP05-119 that CGC described.

How many alt-art versions does OP-05 have?

Twenty-seven, counted on the OP-05 numbers. That equals the 27 before the plus sign in both editions:

Rarity How many numbers Numbers that have alt-arts Alt-art entries
Leader 6 6 6
Super Rare 10 10 12
Secret Rare 2 2 3
Rare 26 6 6
Uncommon 30 0 0
Common 45 0 0
Total 119 24 27

The ten Super Rares are Koala (OP05-006), Sabo (007), Pica (032), Ulti (043), Borsalino (051), Trafalgar Law (069), Eustass“Captain”Kid (074), Rebecca (091), Rob Lucci (093) and Enel (100). The Rares with an alt-art include Belo Betty (OP05-015), X.Drake (055) and Mansherry (088). See the glossary for alternate art.

How does OP-05 line up with OP-04 and OP-06?

Japan counts 25 alt-arts for OP-06. Our guide to One Piece rarities follows Treasure Rares and Special cards into later sets.

Which characters have more than one OP-05 card?

Eight. Sabo (OP05-001 and 007), Belo Betty (002 and 015), Donquixote Rosinante (022 and 030), Monkey.D.Luffy (060 and 119) and Enel (098 and 100) each have a Leader and a second card. Trafalgar Law (027 and 069), Donquixote Doflamingo (028 and 029) and Baby 5 (033 and 034) appear in two rarities. Counting other products’ numbers, Luffy has a third number, ST01-012, and Rob Lucci and Kaido each appear under an earlier set’s number as well.

Is the Japanese OP-05 list the same as the English one?

Yes. The two editions have 125 numbers each (the OP-05 numbers, ST01-012 and five Special-card numbers from four earlier sets), with identical rarities and card types and 154 entries apiece. The editions part ways only on date, price, pack size and the way the total is written. Our guide to Japanese and English One Piece cards looks at the two editions in later sets.

Where do OP-05 card prices come from?

From completed sales of the exact version. Rip.fan’s card price lookup covers English Pokémon cards only, so work through sold listings like this:

  1. Decide which entry the card is. Some numbers hide several cards. OP05-119 is three Luffy Secret Rares. OP05-100 is a Super Rare, its alt-art or a Special card. ST01-012 carries a starter deck number and shows up on OP-03’s list as a Special card and on OP-05’s twice.
  2. Compare the art. Alt-arts carry the same number and the same rarity label as the standard print, so the photo has to match one of Bandai’s images.
  3. Look at completed sales with dates. Our guides to finding what a card sold for and valuing a One Piece card set out the steps.
  4. Treat sealed boxes with care. A booster box is sealed product only while its wrap is intact; our guide to One Piece booster box contents covers what the packs hold.

Grading is covered in grading Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh! and One Piece cards, and the trading card hub lists our latest trading card guides.
