How to start collecting Lorcana cards
Pick a Disney Lorcana focus, decide what a complete set means, compare the products built for collectors, and buy where Ravensburger sends you.

Published 6 min readStart by deciding what you want to collect and what complete means to you, because a Disney Lorcana set has two sizes: its 204 cards in most sets, and a longer list once the special printings are counted. Then choose a product. Ravensburger, which operates the Disney Lorcana site as an official licensee of Disney, offers booster packs and displays, and several products built around storage: a Collection Starter Set with a card portfolio, gift boxes that hold up to 250 cards, and the Illumineer’s Trove. Buy from the places its set pages list, check each card’s set, number and finish, and record what you own.
Step 1: what should you collect?
Ravensburger’s own Collection Starter Set page suggests collecting by character type (villains, heroes or animal sidekicks) or going for every card. Here are those ideas and three more, each with a real example.
| Focus | What you collect | A real example | Read next |
|---|---|---|---|
| One set | The base cards of a single set | Hyperia City, due everywhere October 23, 2026 | Set release dates |
| One group of characters | Heroes, villains or one film across sets | Hyperia City brings in characters from Disney and Pixar’s Coco | Matching a printing |
| Enchanted cards | The special full-art printings of a set | Ravensburger describes Attack of the Vine’s Enchanted art as reminiscent of pulp movie posters from the 1950s to the 1970s | Enchanted |
| Promo cards | Cards found in gift and starter products | The Scrooge McDuck Gift Box holds one foil promo card | Promo card |
| Foils | The foil version of each card | Every card in the coming collector boosters is foil | Rarities |
What does a complete Lorcana set mean?
Choose between two goals before you buy:
- The base set. Ravensburger describes each new set as 204 cards. Enchanted and other special printings come after the base cards in the numbering.
- Every printing. Enchanted, Epic and Iconic cards are reprints of cards in the same set, numbered after the base cards. Winterspell has 204 cards across 242 printings, 18 of them Enchanted. In The First Chapter, Elsa - Spirit of Winter is card 42, and her Enchanted printing is numbered 207.
The second goal adds the special printings, ranked by scarcity: Epic cards above Legendary, Enchanted above Epic, and Iconic, at 2 per set, as the rarest of all. Our guide to Lorcana rarities explains each tier, and Enchanted cards and box contents covers what each pack holds.
Step 2: which products suit a collector?
Several products pair cards with storage, alongside the usual packs.
| Product | Cards inside | Storage and extras | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booster pack | 12 cards | None | The cards in each pack vary |
| Booster display | 24 packs, 288 cards | None | Listed for Fabled and Winterspell |
| Collection Starter Set, Rapunzel Edition | 4 Attack of the Vine packs, 48 cards, plus a foil Rapunzel promo | A collector’s card portfolio and a collector’s guide | Built around keeping cards safe |
| Scrooge McDuck Gift Box | 5 packs of 12 cards, plus a foil promo | A storage box for up to 250 sleeved cards, 3 punch-out dividers | The 250 count is for sleeved cards |
| Elsa Gift Box | 5 packs from different sets, plus a foil promo | A storage box for up to 250 cards, 3 punch-out dividers | The packs hold 60 cards |
| Illumineer’s Trove | 8 booster packs | A storage box and small accessories | Fabled’s Trove also has 6 foiled card dividers |
| Single cards | The exact printing you choose | None | Bought by set, number and finish |
A new product type arrives with Into the Inkdark, the first set of 2027. Ravensburger’s September 22, 2026 press release says collector boosters hold 12 cards, the same as a standard pack, and that the new serialized Illustrious cards come only in collector boosters, with 6 per set and 23 printed of each. Every card in a collector booster is foil.
Step 3: where should you buy?
Start with the places Ravensburger names:
- Local shops. Ravensburger’s store locator finds retailers nearby. Our guide to finding a local card shop covers what else to look for.
- The Ravensburger Store and Amazon. Both are listed beside local shops under “Where to buy” for Winterspell, Attack of the Vine and Hyperia City.
- Disney Parks and stores. Hyperia City’s prerelease runs in select Disney Parks and stores as well as shops, and collector boosters will be sold through select shops and Disney Parks and stores.
Single cards come from marketplaces and from a card show. Our guides to buying raw cards online and spotting fake Lorcana cards cover the checks to make there.
Step 4: how do you check and record each card?
Run three checks before you pay for a single:
- Which printing is it? Read the set, the collector number, the rarity symbol and the finish together. Fabled brought back cards from past sets, so one card name can exist in more than one set. Our guide to checking a Lorcana card’s value shows how to match the exact printing.
- What condition is it in? TCGplayer notes that some flaws show more on foil cards, though it evaluates them by the same standards, so look closely at a foil’s edges and surface. Our guide to card condition grades explains each step.
- What does it sell for? Find a dated sold listing for that printing. As of October 12, 2026, Rip.fan’s own price pages cover Pokémon only, so use the method in the value guide above.
Then record the card. Ravensburger’s companion app has a card database that lets you manage your collection, with card images that shift as you move your phone to show each foil treatment. A spreadsheet with set, number, finish and condition does the same job.
Step 5: how should you store Lorcana cards?
Lorcana cards are standard size. They fit Ultimate Guard’s standard 66 by 91 mm sleeves. The gift boxes’ storage boxes take up to 250 cards, and the Scrooge McDuck box specifies sleeved cards. Put your best cards, especially Enchanted and other foil printings, in a toploader or a binder, and keep the box somewhere cool and dry. Our guides to storing trading cards, building a card binder and card sleeves and holders go further.
What comes after the first cards?
