Sold listing

A sold listing is a marketplace listing that ended in a sale, showing the price a buyer paid. Sold listings show what a card sells for, which is often different from what sellers are asking.

In more detail

On eBay you find them by searching for the card and filtering to sold items. eBay's UK seller guide suggests searching by the card's name and number, turning on the Sold Listings filter to see the most recent prices, and comparing only cards in the same condition.

Asking prices can mislead. TCGplayer's guide to its price figures works through an example of a Magic card whose listed median is close to double its market price, because copies listed near the market price sell and leave the high listings behind. Its Most Recent Sale figure gives the last sold price for the condition and version you select.

Read several sold listings, not one, and match the printing, the condition or grade and the sale type. A graded copy and a raw copy are separate items, and photos of the back and of any label help you judge whether a sale matches your card.
