Bowman is the first of Topps’ yearly Bowman prospect releases, and it mixes paper and Chrome cards in the same box. The 2026 edition came out on May 13, 2026. It holds a 100-card paper base set of veterans and rookies, 150 paper prospect cards and 150 Chrome versions of those prospects, and a hobby box of 20 packs of 8 cards carries one autograph. Each box format also carries color families of its own, so the color on a card often tells you which kind of box it came from.
Where does Bowman fit in the year?
It opens the prospect year, and Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft follow later in the year. Our guides to Bowman Chrome and 1st Bowman cards and Bowman Draft cover those two, along with the 1st Bowman logo and the BP-, BCP- and CPA- card number prefixes.
2025 Bowman came out on May 7, 2025, and 2026 Bowman on May 13, 2026. Bowman Sterling also turns up inside 2026 Bowman, as an insert set and an autograph set, and our guide to Bowman Sterling covers that set on its own.
What is in a 2026 Bowman box?
| Format | Box | Boxes per case | Listed per box |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby | 20 packs of 8 cards | 12 | 1 autograph |
| Jumbo | 12 packs of 28 cards | 8 | 3 autographs |
| Breaker Delight | 1 pack of 10 cards | 6 | 2 autographs and 3 numbered Geometric parallels |
| Mega | 6 packs of 7 cards | 20 | Mega-only Chrome colors |
| Value blaster | Packs of 10 cards | 40 | Retail Green parallels |
The value blaster has 10-card packs and 40 boxes per case. By Rip.fan’s arithmetic, a hobby box holds 160 cards, a jumbo box 336 and a Mega box 42.
Our guide to hobby and retail boxes explains the formats, and our guide to box breaks covers buying a spot in a group opening instead.
Which colors does each box carry?
This is where Bowman differs most from a single-format product. These are the box-only families for 2026:
| Where it comes from | Paper prospect colors | Chrome prospect colors |
|---|---|---|
| Hobby boxes only | Orange Border and Orange Border Pattern, numbered to 25 | Mini-Diamond, X-Fractor and League LogoFractor (unnumbered), Wave (350), Blue RayWave (150), and Orange, Orange Shimmer and Reptilian Orange (25) |
| Variety Packs | None | One each of the Gum Ball, Peanuts, Popcorn and Sunflower Seeds Refractors |
| Breaker Delight boxes | None | Geometric Refractors, numbered from 250 down to 5 |
| Retail value blasters | Green Border and Green Border Pattern, numbered to 99 | Green, Green Shimmer and Green Reptilian (99), and a FireFractor numbered to 3 |
| Mega boxes | None | Lazer Refractors, and Mojo Refractors on Mega-only Chrome prospect cards |
The Variety Pack Refractors come at hobby rates. The Mojo family runs from a Sky Blue Mojo numbered to 499 down to a Rose Gold Mojo one of one. The rule that follows: a plain Orange, Orange Shimmer or Reptilian Orange Chrome prospect numbered to 25 is a hobby card, a plain Green, Green Shimmer or Green Reptilian numbered to 99 is retail, a Geometric is Breaker Delight and a Mojo is Mega.
How do the paper and Chrome colors line up?
Most runs have both a paper border and a Chrome Refractor, but some colors change run between the two, and some runs exist on one side only. The table has no Variety Pack, Breaker Delight, Mega or retail-only colors:
| Run | Paper prospect border | Chrome prospect Refractor |
|---|---|---|
| 499 | Sky Blue | Refractor |
| 399 | Neon Green | Lava |
| 350 | None | Wave (hobby only) |
| 299 | Fuchsia | Speckle |
| 250 | Purple, Purple Pattern | Purple, Purple RayWave |
| 199 | None | Fuchsia, Fuchsia Wave, Reptilian Fuchsia |
| 175 | Pink | None |
| 150 | Blue, Blue Pattern | Blue, Blue Shimmer, Reptilian Blue, Blue RayWave (hobby only) |
| 125 | None | Aqua X-Fractor, Aqua Shimmer |
| 100 | None | A metal-finish Refractor |
| 99 | None outside retail | Green Grass |
| 75 | Yellow, Yellow Pattern | Yellow, Yellow X-Fractor, Yellow Wave |
| 50 | Gold, Gold Pattern | Gold, Gold Shimmer, Reptilian Gold |
| 35 | None | Bowman LogoFractor |
| 25 | Orange (hobby only) | The Orange family (hobby only) |
| 15 | None | Rose Gold |
| 5 | Red | Red, Red Lava, Reptilian Red |
| 1 | Platinum | SuperFractor |
At a run of 10, the Chrome prospect Refractors are Black and Black X-Fractor.
Three things stand out:
- Fuchsia changes run. A Fuchsia paper border is numbered to 299, and a Fuchsia Chrome Refractor to 199. Outside these ladders, the Mega box’s Fuchsia Mojo is numbered to 299.
- Some runs are one-sided. In these two ladders, Pink at 175 is paper only, while Aqua at 125, the metal finish at 100 and Rose Gold at 15 are Chrome only.
- The paper Black Border. Read its run from the stamp on the card.
The sites also name the 100-run Refractor differently, so it is described here by its finish. Both sides end in a one of one, and our guide to serial-numbered cards explains how to read the stamp.
What changed from 2025?
The set sizes held steady, and the autograph set shrank:
| 2025 Bowman | 2026 Bowman | |
|---|---|---|
| Released | May 7, 2025 | May 13, 2026 |
| Base set | 100 cards | 100 cards |
| Paper prospects | 150 | 150 |
| Chrome prospects | 150 | 150 |
| Jumbo box | 12 packs of 28 cards, 3 autographs | 12 packs of 28 cards, 3 autographs |
| Hobby box autographs | 1 | 1 |
| Chrome Prospect Autographs | 105 cards, listed at 1:54 hobby packs | 87 cards, listed at 1:56 hobby packs |
New in 2026 are the Electric Sluggers and Patchwork inserts and the Chrome Prospect PackFractor Variation, which has 88 cards numbered to 89, beside a signed version. Bowman Spotlights, Crystallized, the Etched in Glass variations and the Anime inserts with their Kanji variations appear in both years. The insert entry explains the term.
How to check a Bowman card before you buy
- Read the year, the release and the full card number. Our Bowman Chrome guide explains the BP- and BCP- prefixes.
- Decide whether the card is paper or Chrome, then match the color to that side’s run. Outside the Mega Mojo cards, a Fuchsia stamped out of 299 is paper, and out of 199 Chrome.
- Use the finish to place the box: Geometric means Breaker Delight, Mojo or Lazer means Mega, a plain Green, Green Shimmer or Green Reptilian 99 or a FireFractor means retail, and a plain Orange 25 means hobby.
- For a paper Black Border, trust the stamp, since the checklist sites disagree on its run.
- Measure the borders with our centering checker, and price the exact version from recent sales, as our guide to valuing a sports card explains.
Price Bowman cards from recent sold listings. Our guide to reading a sports card checklist explains the codes, our guide to what counts as a rookie card explains why a prospect card is not a rookie card, and the sports cards hub lists our other sports guides.
