Bowman Draft is the last of Topps’ three yearly Bowman prospect releases, and it is built around the newest class of MLB draft picks. The 2025 edition came out on January 14, 2026. Its 200-card base set comes twice, once on paper and once on Chrome, with numbered Refractor colors on the Chrome side and a 102-card prospect autograph set on top. A hobby box holds 12 packs of 32 cards with three autographs.
What is Bowman Draft?
It is Bowman’s draft-class set. Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects is a set like regular Bowman that adds cards of players taken in the MLB draft. Its roots go back to 1992, when Topps relaunched Bowman as a prospect and rookie brand, and Bowman Draft is among the products that grew from it.
The 2025 edition closes the year’s Bowman run, after 2025 Bowman and 2025 Bowman Chrome. Its 1st Bowman subjects include the top three picks of the 2025 draft, Eli Willits, Tyler Bremner and Kade Anderson. Our guide to Bowman Chrome and 1st Bowman cards explains what that logo marks.
How do you read a Bowman Draft card number?
The prefix tells you the set. These are the main ones on the 2025 list:
| Prefix | Set | Cards |
|---|---|---|
| BD- | Paper base | BD-1 to BD-200 |
| BDC- | Chrome base | BDC-1 to BDC-200 |
| CPA- | Chrome Prospect Autographs | 102, with letter codes such as CPA-EW |
Cards numbered BD- and BDC- show the same 200 players in the same order, starting with Eli Willits at number 1. So BD-1 and BDC-1 are the same player on different stock, and a listing should say which one it is, not only “Bowman Draft #1”.
Is every card a 1st Bowman card?
No. The base set mixes the new draft class with prospects who already had Bowman cards. 37 of the 200 names in the base set also appear on the prospect lists of 2025 Bowman or 2025 Bowman Chrome, 3 of them under a different team. Check a player’s earlier releases before you treat his Bowman Draft card as his first.
The autographs tell a different story. All 102 signers in Chrome Prospect Autographs are on the base list, and none of them appears on the 2025 Bowman or Bowman Chrome prospect lists. Two retired greats, Sadaharu Oh and Lou Brock, also have 1st Bowman cards in a two-card RetroFractor set.
A prospect card is not an official rookie card. Since a rule change before the 2006 season, an official rookie card comes only after a player has been on a team’s 25-man roster, so his RC arrives later. Our guide to what counts as a rookie card covers the rule.
What parallels does the base set have?
The paper cards use colored borders. They come in Sky Blue (numbered to 499), Blue (150), Green (99), Gold (50), Orange (25) and a Black 1 of 1, plus printing plates. The Orange is hobby only.
The Chrome cards use Refractors. The listed hobby rate is how often a card turns up in hobby packs:
| Chrome parallel | Print run | Listed hobby rate |
|---|---|---|
| Refractor | Not numbered | 1:1 |
| Sky Blue (hobby only), X-Fractor | Not numbered | 1:12 each |
| Purple | 250 | 1:30 |
| Fuchsia Reptilian | 199 | 1:38 |
| Blue | 150 | 1:50 |
| Aqua Wave, Aqua Reptilian | 125 | 1:60 each |
| A metal-finish Refractor | 100 | 1:75 |
| Green, Green Grass, Green Reptilian | 99 | 1:76 each |
| Yellow, Yellow Reptilian | 75 | 1:100 each |
| Gold | 50 | 1:149 |
| LogoFractor | 35 | 1:213 |
| Orange (hobby only) | 25 | 1:208 |
| Black, Black X-Fractor | 10 | 1:744 each |
| Red, Red Lava | 5 | 1:1,487 each |
| SuperFractor | 1 | 1:7,412 |
Several finishes share a run, so a Green Grass and a plain Green Refractor are both numbered to 99. Read the pattern as well as the stamp. There is also an unnumbered Sparkle Refractor at 1:38, and a Geometric family for one-pack Breaker Delight boxes, numbered from 250 down to 5. Our guide to serial-numbered cards explains the stamp, and the Refractor entry covers the finish.
What are the Variety Pack Refractors?
Hobby boxes include Variety Packs, each with one Gumball, one Peanuts, one Popcorn and one Sunflower Seeds Refractor. The signed versions are numbered to 5.
Which variations are there?
There are three, each with its own code on the back:
- Etched in Glass, 20 cards, at 1:372 hobby packs (code CMP125741).
- Image Variations, 10 cards, at 1:425 (CMP125744).
- College Variation, 10 cards of top prospects in a college-themed version, at 1:744 (CMP125745).
What autographs are in Bowman Draft?
Mostly prospects. The main set is Chrome Prospect Autographs, 102 cards, with this numbered ladder:
| Run | Chrome Prospect Autograph versions |
|---|---|
| 499 | Refractor |
| 250 | Purple |
| 199 | Aqua Lava |
| 150 | Blue, Blue Wave |
| 99 | Green |
| 75 | Yellow |
| 71 | Sparkle |
| 50 | Gold, Gold Wave |
| 25 | Orange |
| 10 | Black, Black X-Fractor |
| 5 | Red, Red Lava, and the four Variety Pack patterns |
| 1 | SuperFractor, printing plates |
The Refractor is listed at 1:34 hobby packs. A Gold Ink Variation numbered to 15 covers 75 of the 102 signers. Other signed sets:
- Achromatic Autographs, 28 cards, at 1:245 hobby packs.
- Bowman In Action Autographs, 15 cards numbered to 99, die-cut like toy packaging.
- Prospect Dual Autographs, 14 cards numbered to 99.
- Draft Prospect Portrait Autographs, 41 cards numbered to 10.
What is in a 2025 box?
| Format | Packs per box | Cards per pack | Autographs | Boxes per case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby | 12 | 32 | 3 | 8 |
| Jumbo | 5 | 120 | 5 | 6 |
The jumbo format is also called Super Jumbo. By Rip.fan’s arithmetic, a hobby box holds 384 cards and a jumbo box 600. There is also a new Mega box of 7 packs of 5 cards, and a one-pack Breaker Delight box of 10 cards. Our guide to hobby and retail boxes explains how the formats differ, and our guide to box breaks covers buying a spot in a group opening instead.
How to check a Bowman Draft card before you buy
- Read the full card number, prefix included. BD- is paper, BDC- is Chrome and CPA- is an autograph.
- Check the player against the year’s earlier Bowman releases before you call the card his first.
- For a numbered card, match the stamp to the color and the pattern, since several finishes share each run.
- For a Gold Ink autograph, match the stamp to 15.
- Measure the borders with our centering checker, and price the exact version from recent sales, as our guide to valuing a sports card explains.
Rip.fan’s card price lookup covers English Pokémon cards only, so sold listings are where to price Bowman Draft. Our guide to reading a sports card checklist explains the codes, our guide to sticker and on-card autographs covers signatures, and the sports cards hub lists our other sports guides.
