Prospect card
A prospect card shows a player who has not yet reached a major league roster, and in Bowman's baseball sets it sits in a numbered prospect set of its own, apart from the rookie cards.
In more detail
Prospect cards sit in numbered sets of their own. Checklist Insider's 2026 Bowman Baseball guide lists 150 paper Prospects, numbered with a BP prefix, and 150 Chrome Prospects beside a 100-card base set of veterans and rookies. Breakninja, another checklist site, also gives the Prospect set 150 cards.
An older guide to baseball rookie cards on the hobby news site Cardboard Connection, which discusses 2011 Bowman Chrome, traces the confusion over baseball rookie cards back to 1992 Bowman, when Topps rebranded Bowman as a prospect and rookie product. Under the rookie card rule that guide describes, an official rookie card came only after a player first appeared on a team's 25-man roster, so Bowman printed its prospects in a separately numbered insert set.
A card that shows the 1st Bowman logo marks a player's first Bowman card, as that entry explains. When you buy, check whether a card is from the prospect set or the base set: in 2026 Bowman, a BP prefix on the card number marks a paper prospect.
