Ultra rare

Ultra rare is a rarity name used by more than one card game. On modern Pokémon cards it marks full art Pokémon ex and Supporter cards with two silver stars; on Yu-Gi-Oh! cards it means holofoil art with a gold foil name.

In more detail

Since the Scarlet & Violet expansion, the Pokémon ultra rare has covered the full art prints of Pokémon ex and Supporter cards, numbered above the set's printed total and marked with two foil stars that CGC describes as silver. Bulbapedia adds that from the Mega Evolution expansion, some Item, Tool and Stadium cards appear as full art ultra rares as well. Before Scarlet & Violet, the name covered special card types of each era, such as Pokémon V.

On Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, an Ultra Rare looks like a Super Rare, with holofoil artwork, but its name is printed in gold foil. Konami lists Beyond the Brave, a 100-card booster set that launched on October 9, 2026, with 14 Ultra Rares beside 26 Super Rares, 10 Secret Rares and 50 Commons, and notes that set contents are subject to change.

Because the name means different things, say which card game you mean when you use it. A Pokémon ultra rare and a Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultra Rare are unrelated tiers, and Japanese Pokémon cards use the letters UR for another tier again, the hyper rare.
