Set code

A set code is the short code of letters, and sometimes digits, that identifies a card's set. Yu-Gi-Oh! cards print it at the start of the card number, and Magic gives each set a short code such as FRA.

Also called Set prefix.

In more detail

On Yu-Gi-Oh! cards the card number has three parts, which TCGplayer writes as SET-RN999: a set prefix of two to four characters, a regional code of one or two letters, and the card's number in the set. It usually sits under the art on the right; on Pendulum Monster cards it is at the bottom left. Series 1 cards carry no card number.

Magic's Gatherer database lists every set with its code, card count and release date. Reality Fracture, released on October 2, 2026, has the code FRA and 437 cards, and its Commander set has the code FRC.

Use the code when you price a card. TCGplayer's guide to Yu-Gi-Oh! rarities suggests searching a card's set identifier to see which rarities a release holds, since the same card is often printed in several products. A listing whose code does not match its photo describes a different printing.
