Set

A set is one release of cards under its own name, symbol and card count. Pokémon calls its sets expansions, and each one belongs to a series of releases.

Also called Expansion.

Pokémon
How Pokémon card numbers map out a set A card number reads as the card's own number over the printed total of its set: Pikachu from 151 prints 025/165, card 025 of a printed total of 165. Below, Journey Together as a bar: the numbered set runs from 001 to the printed total, 159 cards, and more cards are numbered above the printed total. The complete set takes every card number, 190 in all. 025 / 165 025 is the card's own number. 165 is the printed total of its set. Pikachu, 151, prints 025/165. Journey Together 159 numbered cards, 190 in all Numbered above the printed total Numbered set 001 159 Numbered set: 159 cards Complete set: every card number, 190 in all

In more detail

Each set is a numbered list of cards released together under one name, such as Base Set or Neo Destiny. Every card carries the set's small symbol, which is the quickest way to tell which release it came from.

Pokémon calls each release after Base Set an expansion, and expansions are grouped into series. A series usually takes its name from the first expansion in the group, as the Black & White Series and the XY Series do. Collecting every card of one expansion makes a complete set.

Name the set as well as the card when you buy or list. The same Pokémon is printed in many sets, and each printing has its own number and its own price. A set's printed total is the count of cards in its main list, and English Base Set, released on January 9, 1999, has 102.
