Patch card

A patch card is a memorabilia card whose swatch is cut from a patch on a jersey, such as a number, a name plate or a logo, rather than from plain jersey fabric.

In more detail

A 2009 beginner's glossary on Upper Deck's site defines a patch card as a jersey or relic card with a swatch made from the patches on a team jersey. The patch can be a jersey number, a team name, a player's name plate or a team or league logo.

The same glossary names a few special kinds. A letterman card carries one letter from a player's name plate, a logo patch card carries a team or league logo, and a logoman holds an entire league logo patch.

Upper Deck names patch swapping as a form of tampering with these cards. For its The Cup Rookie Auto Patch cards it slabs each card and adds a QR code that shows photographs of the card as it was issued, so collectors can check that one has not been altered. The rookie patch autograph entry covers cards that pair a patch with a signature.
