Dragon Majesty, a special expansion in Pokémon’s Sun & Moon series, went on sale on September 7, 2018, and Pokémon promised a host of draconic Pokémon in its alerts. The set has 78 cards: 70 inside the printed total of 70 and 8 beyond it. Ultra Necrozma-GX, the set’s seventh GX name, has a single card at 78.

When did Dragon Majesty come out?

On September 7, 2018. Pokémon announced the set on July 13, 2018, giving that date for its launch. An alert on September 7 called it the latest special expansion and said it was out from that day.

Celestial Storm came out on August 3, 2018, and Pokémon’s alert of October 1, 2018 set November 2 for Lost Thunder. Dragon Majesty came out between the two. Its set code is DRM, and it sits in the Sun & Moon series. Our guide to Pokémon card eras shows where that series falls.

How many cards are in Dragon Majesty?

The 78 cards fall into these blocks:

Numbers Cards What they are
1 to 57 57 Pokémon, including 6 Pokémon-GX and the Prism Star card Victini
58 to 64 7 Trainer cards: 3 Supporters, 2 Items, 1 Tool and 1 Stadium
65 to 68 4 Pokémon-GX, all four labeled Rare Ultra on Rip.fan’s page
69 to 70 2 Supporters labeled Rare Ultra: Blaine’s Last Stand and Zinnia
71 to 74 4 Pokémon-GX labeled Rare Rainbow
75 to 78 4 Three Trainer cards and Ultra Necrozma-GX, labeled Rare Secret

No Energy card appears on the list, so the basic Energy the alerts put in each pack is not on it. The eight cards from 71 up are secret rares in CGC’s sense, since their numbers run past the set number. Most secret rares share their name with a lower-rarity card in the same set, and seven of these eight do. Ultra Necrozma-GX is the exception.

Leaving out the GX cards and Victini, the first block has 50 regular Pokémon: 23 commons, 18 uncommons and 9 rares. On Rip.fan’s price pages each of the 9 rares is labeled Rare Holo. The circle, diamond and star printed beside the number are covered in Pokémon card rarity symbols explained.

Where do the special cards sit in Dragon Majesty?

The special cards sit at these numbers:

Card group Where it is
Prism Star cards: 2 Victini at 7 and the Supporter Lance at 61
Pokémon-GX: 6 Reshiram-GX 11, Kingdra-GX 18, Dragonite-GX 37, Altaria-GX 41, Salamence-GX 44 and White Kyurem-GX 48
Full-art GX cards: 4 The Rare Ultra GX cards at 65 to 68
Full-art Supporters: 2 Blaine’s Last Stand at 69 and Zinnia at 70
Rainbow GX cards: 4 The Rare Rainbow cards at 71 to 74

Four more cards sit at 75 to 78. Three are second cards of Trainers from the main run: Dragon Talon from 59, Fiery Flint from 60 and Switch Raft from 62. The fourth is Ultra Necrozma-GX, the only card in the set with that name. Prism Star is a card type of its own, and on Rip.fan’s price pages Victini and Lance carry the label Rare Prism Star.

Which Pokémon-GX come in which versions?

Seven GX names:

Pokémon-GX First block Rare Ultra, 65 to 68 Rare Rainbow or Secret, 71 to 78
Reshiram-GX 11 65 71
Kingdra-GX 18 66 None
Dragonite-GX 37 67 None
Altaria-GX 41 68 72
Salamence-GX 44 None 73
White Kyurem-GX 48 None 74
Ultra Necrozma-GX None None 78

Only Reshiram-GX and Altaria-GX reach all three blocks. Kingdra-GX and Dragonite-GX stop at the Rare Ultra block, while Salamence-GX and White Kyurem-GX skip it and go straight to the rainbow run. The first-block Reshiram-GX is credited to PLANETA Otani and its two later cards to PLANETA Igarashi, who is also credited with Ultra Necrozma-GX. The rest of the GX cards are credited to 5ban Graphics. For what GX means beside EX and the newer labels, see Pokémon ex, EX, GX, V, VMAX and VSTAR cards explained.

How many of its Pokémon are Dragon type?

Fewer than half. Pokémon’s July alert described a horde of draconic Pokémon, Charizard among them. The 57 cards of the first block are typed like this, in number order:

Numbers Type Cards
1 to 14 Fire 14
15 to 31 Water 17
32 and 33 One card each of two other types 2, Trapinch and Hydreigon
34 to 54 Dragon 21
55 to 57 Colorless 3

21 of 57 are Dragon type, the largest single group, and Fire and Water together make 31. Charizard, which Pokémon singled out in its alerts, is a Fire card at 3/70, after Charmander at 1 and Charmeleon at 2, and it has no GX version here. Three names have two different first-block cards each: Horsea at 15 and 16, Dratini at 34 and 35, and Swablu at 56 and 57.

Which Supporters have a second card?

Two of the three. Blaine’s Last Stand appears at 58 and again at 69, and Zinnia at 64 and again at 70. Lance, the Prism Star Supporter at 61, has one card only. Each second card is credited to a different illustrator from the first: Mitsuhiro Arita instead of Ken Sugimori for Blaine’s Last Stand, and Hideki Ishikawa instead of Megumi Mizutani for Zinnia.

How were Dragon Majesty packs sold?

Only inside other products, by Pokémon’s account. Both alerts said the booster packs would come only in select products, among them Pokémon-GX boxes, and neither named a booster box. Each pack, they said, held 10 cards from the set, including two foil cards, plus a basic Energy card, and the cards in each pack vary. A loose pack would have come out of one of those products, so look over the wrapper with how to spot a resealed Pokémon pack in hand.

How do you check Dragon Majesty card prices?

Among Rip.fan’s Pokémon price pages, Dragon Majesty sits in the Sun & Moon group with a table of its own, with a row per card showing its number, its rarity label and an NM market price. The rarity filter does most of the work here: Rare Prism Star shows Victini and Lance, Rare Holo GX the six first-block GX cards, Rare Rainbow the four rainbow cards and Rare Secret the four cards from 75 to 78. Sort by card number to see Reshiram-GX at 11, 65 and 71 in order.

The card price lookup finds one card across every set from the first letters of its name, set or number, and each result also names which printing the price covers. The price changes page takes cards that were priced at $5 or more at two of Rip.fan’s weekly checks and ranks their biggest percentage moves. These are past prices for raw cards, with no view on future ones.

What should you check before buying a Dragon Majesty card?

  1. Which Reshiram-GX or Altaria-GX. Each has three cards. Match the card number on the listing, not only the name.
  2. The cards at 75 to 78. Dragon Talon, Fiery Flint and Switch Raft each have a main-run card too, so a listing needs its number above 70 to be the later card.
  3. Charizard. The set’s only Charizard is 3/70, with no GX version.
  4. Loose packs. Pokémon’s alerts put the packs only inside larger products, so ask which one a single pack came from.
  5. A real card. Before paying, go through how to tell if a Pokémon card is fake.

For other sets, start from the Pokémon hub. Our guide to Shining Legends covers an earlier special set from the Sun & Moon series.
