Wizards of the Coast has canceled the Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek Beginner Box in all regions, it said in a statement dated September 21, 2026. Wizards cited delays in production, logistics and shipping, and said no other Star Trek product is affected.
The rest of the set is still on Wizards’ product page, which gives a release date of November 13.
Wizards’ note to stores carries an earlier date, September 11, 2026, although it links back to the September 21 statement.
What Wizards told buyers and stores
Wizards’ public statement is short. Anyone who preordered a Beginner Box should contact the local store or retailer where they placed the order. It does not say how refunds are handled.
Its note to stores adds three things:
- Orders. A store that ordered the box through a distributor should contact that distributor about the order.
- Listings. Wizards recommends that stores take down Beginner Box product images, online listings and inventory records to avoid confusion.
- Sessions for newcomers. For Magic Academy and similar sessions, Wizards tells stores to keep using Welcome Decks, Jumpstart, Play Booster packs or Beginner Boxes they received earlier, where they have them.
Wizards also said it is updating its plans for events that were going to include the Beginner Box, such as MagicCon: Atlanta, and will share details later.
What is still coming on November 13
The Star Trek product pages for players and for stores no longer show the Beginner Box. Together they list the rest of the set:
| Product | What Wizards’ pages say | Status on October 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner Box | Canceled in all regions | Canceled; public statement dated September 21 |
| Prerelease Pack | 6 Play Boosters, 1 traditional foil rare or mythic rare card and an accessory | Release November 13; store early access November 6 |
| Play Boosters | 14 cards in each pack | Listed for preorder |
| Collector Boosters | Rares, traditional foils and a full-art land; can include a Headliner Signed card | Listed for preorder |
| Bundle and Beam Me Up Bundle | Play Boosters; the Beam Me Up Bundle adds a Collector Booster | Listed for preorder |
| Commander Decks and Collector’s Edition Commander Decks | Four decks each; the Collector’s Edition decks are 100-card decks with a Surge Foil finish | Listed for preorder |
| Draft Night | A kit for a four-person Pick-Two Draft | Listed for preorder |
| Scene Boxes | Two: Divergent Timeline and Enterprise-Q, each with six borderless Scene cards | Listed for preorder |
The Headliner Signed cards carry autographs from the actors, according to Wizards. They are printed in English only but can turn up in Collector Boosters of any language, and Wizards says they are mechanically identical to the cards’ other versions.
Where Star Trek sits in the booster changes
Wizards’ retailer page calls Star Trek a 2026 Universes Beyond set. On October 5, Wizards said its booster changes, including the end of foil commons in the main pack, start with Nauctis, the first Magic set of 2027. Those changes come after Star Trek’s November 13 release, and Star Trek’s retailer page still lists Play Boosters, not Booster Packs.
The rest of the Star Trek release
Only one product is gone. Wizards’ page still gives the set a November 13 release.
Wizards sends Beginner Box buyers to the store that took the preorder and describes no refund process of its own. Wizards also asked stores to remove Beginner Box listings, so a listing that is still up is out of date.
What to do
- If you preordered the Beginner Box, contact the store or retailer you ordered from and ask how it is handling the order.
- Check the product name on any other Star Trek preorder. Wizards says only the Beginner Box is canceled.
- Treat any new listing for a Star Trek Beginner Box with care, since Wizards has stopped making it.
- Read our Collector Booster guide before buying Collector Boosters, and note that Headliner Signed cards are printed in English only.
- Keep track of the rest of the calendar with our guide to Magic set release dates.
How we checked
The details come from Wizards of the Coast’s public statement, dated September 21, 2026, and its note to stores, which links back to that statement but shows a date of September 11, 2026. Wizards’ consumer and retailer product pages for Star Trek and its October 5 booster announcement supplied the rest. All were read on October 12, 2026.
