Store credit
Store credit is a balance a shop gives you in place of cash, usually for cards you sell or trade in. It can be spent only at that shop, and shops often offer more of it than they would pay in cash.
In more detail
Shops that buy cards usually pay two ways. TCGplayer's BinderPOS buylist tools let a store set one percentage of a card's value for cash and another for store credit, and its guide suggests giving a little more in credit as a reason for customers to come back.
An Ottawa-area store shows the gap in practice: its buylist pays 30% more in store credit than in cash, by check or through PayPal. The credit goes to your account on its online store, though its FAQ notes that its Shopify store does not accept credit for pre-orders.
Credit is useful only at the shop that issued it. Check what it can be spent on, whether it expires and whether it covers pre-orders before you choose it over cash.
