Gem Mint

Gem Mint is the grade name for a near-perfect card, most often given as a 10. At CGC Cards, Gem Mint 10 sits just below Pristine 10, its top grade.

In more detail

CGC Cards gives Gem Mint 10 to a card that receives a 10 overall but misses the Pristine 10 standard on one of its criteria. Its corners look perfect to the naked eye, its surface is free of print spots with full gloss, and its front centering is no worse than about 55/45, with 75/25 allowed on the back.

Pristine 10 is CGC's top grade, for a card that is virtually flawless to the naked eye, with 50/50 centering, and it comes with a special label. One hobby glossary uses Gem Mint for the near-perfect grade at several companies, and the number behind the name can differ from one company to the next.

CGC has also brought older labels into line: its legacy key treats a Gem Mint 9.5 from CGC Trading Cards or CSG as today's Gem Mint 10. When you compare sales, name the company and the exact grade, since Gem Mint on one label is not the same as Gem Mint on another.
