Buyer's premium

A buyer's premium is a percentage an auction house adds to the final bid, the hammer price, so at 20% a $100 hammer price costs the buyer $120 before tax and shipping.

Also called Buyers premium, Buyer premium.

In more detail

Each house sets its own rate; these are as their pages read on October 12, 2026. Fanatics Collect adds 20% to the hammer price in its Weekly and Premier Auctions. Goldin lists 22% with a $19 minimum, and Clean Sweep Auctions lists a standard 22%, plus 5% more on bids placed after 2:00 a.m. Eastern and 10% after 2:30 a.m.

Not every format has one. Fanatics Collect's Buy Now marketplace charges no buyer's premium, so the price you see is the price you pay, though a fulfillment fee applies if you have the item shipped instead of keeping it in the vault. Its how-it-works page adds that state taxes and a 2.9% fee may apply to a purchase total at checkout, depending on the payment method and where it ships.

The premium is added on top of the hammer price, so the buyer's total is higher than the final bid. When you read auction results, check whether the price shown includes the premium, since the hammer price and the buyer's total are different figures.
