Fulfillment fee

A fulfillment fee is what a rip site charges to ship a card out of its vault. It is a share of the card's value or a flat amount, and it can change with the length of storage.

In more detail

Fanatics Collect charges it as a share of the card's insured value: 3% if the card is taken out within the first 90 days after it is stored, and 1% after that. A card valued at $200 would carry a fee of $6 in the first period and $2 afterward, before shipping is added.

The fee is separate from postage, and it can be a large part of the cost of a cheap card. A card worth $20 carries a small fee on a percentage basis, but a flat fee would be a big share of it, so check which kind the site uses.

Add the fee to the pack price when you compare sites. A pack that looks cheap can cost more once you take the card home, and a site that charges nothing to keep a card in its vault may still charge to ship it.
