1st Edition

1st Edition is a stamp on the first print run of a set. Wizards of the Coast used it on English Pokémon sets from Base Set to Neo Destiny, and those cards are priced apart from later printings.

Also called First Edition.

In more detail

The stamp is a small Edition 1 symbol on the card, placed opposite the set symbol, and it is on 1st Edition packs and boxes too. Only the first run of a set carries it. Later runs are called Unlimited.

Wizards of the Coast made 1st Edition runs for every English set from Base Set up to and including Neo Destiny, except Base Set 2. The last of them reached stores alongside or after the Unlimited run, so the stamp means less on those sets.

First print cards are typically worth more than Unlimited ones, and those from Base Set are the most sought after. With a gap that large, check the stamp on the card in your hand and, for a graded card, that the label and cert record agree.
