Black Label

A Black Label is Beckett's top label, given to a card that scores a perfect 10 in all four subgrades: centering, corners, edges and surface.

In more detail

One guide dates Beckett's Black Label Pristine 10 to 2014. A card has to score a 10 on every one of the four subgrades to get it. Averaging does not help: one subgrade of 9.5 keeps a card from the label, whatever the other three say.

Because it asks for a perfect score in four places, the label is rare. One hobby guide quotes Beckett's own statistics as putting it at under 1% of the cards graded, and another puts it lower still, so treat any exact figure as an estimate.

When you meet one for sale, check the cert number on Beckett's site and read all four subgrades on the label. Look at the card itself too: the label tells you what Beckett decided, not how the card suits you.
