Whatnot began its move to volume-based seller commissions on September 21, 2026. The change sets card sellers’ commission rates by their sales totals, with lower public rates for higher-volume sellers.
Existing sellers entered the rollout first. New sellers were scheduled to enter during the week of September 28, 2026. Sales through Live shows, Shop and Marketplace all count toward each seller’s total.
How card commissions are set
Each 4-week sales period determines the seller’s rate for the following 4-week period. The category of each item determines which commission applies.
As of September 17, 2026, the standard US rate for most categories remained 8% below $15,000 in qualifying sales. Sports and trading card sellers reaching $500,000 could qualify for a public rate of 6.5%.
Custom commissions advertised as low as 3% require direct arrangements with dedicated account managers, Value Added Resource reported. They sit outside the published volume tiers.
Whatnot applies commission to the item’s price. Its separate US processing charge was 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction as of September 17, 2026. Processing applies to the buyer’s full payment, including tax and shipping.
Premier Shop changes on November 1, 2026
The extra commission discount for Premier Shop sellers runs through October 31, 2026. It reduces the applicable commission rate by 10%. Whatnot scheduled its removal for November 1, 2026.
For a seller in the 8% tier, the discount reduces commission to 7.2%. Removing it adds 0.8 percentage points if the seller stays in that tier. Processing charges remain separate from that calculation.
Card sale fees on eBay Live
As of September 17, 2026, eBay Live charged 6% commission for most categories, including trading cards. It applied that percentage to the full transaction, including shipping and tax.
The fee example uses a $10 item, $4.99 shipping and $0.85 tax. Whatnot’s 8% commission comes to $0.80. eBay Live’s 6% commission rounds to $0.95 on the $15.84 total, before processing.
On the same date, eBay Live capped commission at $100 per item. Whatnot’s tier system replaced a temporary promotion waiving commission on the portion of qualifying sales above $1,500.
